Spoilers
Maggie
Terrified since Bly’s death, Maggie(Jahkara J Smith) has turned back to drugs and alcohol. Cleaning up after tearing his house apart, she finds his uniform and has a meltdown. She also finds her Scrabble tiles on the front porch. The tiles she threw away at the bus station in Haverhill. She asks about Bly, and they confirm what she already knew. He’s dead.
Maggie calls her mother, pleading to come home, but her mother tells her if she does, she has to adhere to the rules: No drugs or girls, and church on Sunday. Maggie throws the phone down, and decides instead to go party, getting drunk and high on e.
RISD
Vic(Ashleigh Cummings) finds out she has gotten a full scholarship to RISD, and tells her mother. Linda(Virginia Kull) is less than thrilled, as now she has nothing in the way of an excuse to keep Vic from going.
Until the party.
Willa(Paulina Singer) throws a party for Vic at her parents’ place, and Linda is less than thrilled. While they are there, Bing(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) enters Linda’s house, prepared to gas them. Instead, he snoops and finds a box in Vic’s closet with booze, marijuana, and condoms. He leaves it out for Linda to find. Linda finds it and tells Vic she can’t go to RISD. Vic reminds her that she is eighteen, and doesn’t need her mother’s permission.
She tells Vic that she will only find trouble in the big city, and Vic runs out of the house as Linda tells her that if she leaves, she can’t come back.
Bing
Running into the woods, blinded by tears, Vic is captured and gassed by Bing. She wakes up in his basement, legs and wrists duct taped together. Bing wants to kill her, but Vic thinks quickly, buying time for her to use the charm Craig(Dalton Harrod) got her to cut at the tape.
Parnassus
After kidnapping yet another child, Charlie Manx(Zachary Quinto) visits a bar named Parnassus. The owner is Abe(Reg Rogers), and it is an Inscape where the less than savory Creatives meet. Look close for all the Stephen King Easter Eggs! All the patrons scatter when they see Charlie(Even Pennywise), and he and Abe sit with drinks and have a chat. Of course, Charlie has a candy cane in his drink.
We do find out a bit more about Charlie’s past. His mother was a prostitute, and it is implied she also prostituted her own son. We find out he was married as well. Was.
The discuss Jolene July and Vic. Charlie seems to have fallen in love with Vic, wanting her as a mother to his “children,” while Abe just thinks he needs to kill her.
Escape
After finding out Bing’s backstory, Vic breaks free from her bonds and kicks Charlie right in the, uh, cookies, and gasses him. She grabs her jacket and runs up the stairs to freedom.
She calls Maggie, who tells her that Linda still has her bike. Vic thinks Maggie sounds strange, but goes to Linda for her bike. Her mother is scared about what will happen to her when Vic is gone, and Vic tells her she will have no one to blame anymore. Hopping on her bike, she goes to find Maggie.
Miss Trixie’s
Maggie is in the middle of overdosing between two dumpsters. Vic rouses her and makes her throw up, reviving her. Vic seemed pretty knowledgeable about how to do that, y’all. She had no queasiness about shoving her fingers right down Maggie’s throat. She reminds Maggie that they are a team.
Thoughts on Parnassus
- The bar Parnassus is named after this, which a bit(a huge bit) of a misnomer, as Freddie and Pennywise hang out there.
- Definitely check out the bar scene, though, as there are more Easter eggs than I could find.
- Linda had the bike all along!
- Bing is a tattletale.
- Chris hitting on his estranged wife. Yeah, well she looks good because you haven’t hit her lately.
- Bing just keeps getting creepier and creepier, right?
- How did those tiles get back to Maggie?
- Maggie’s breakdown and Vic’s capture being shown at the same time with only Vic overcoming is a complete 180 from the beginning of the story. Let’s hope Maggie overcomes her fear. It looks like Vic will need everyone’s help to defeat Charlie Manx.
