The Application

After seeing the comic ad, Bing Partridge(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) is typing up his resume for Christmasland. In a series of nightmarish events where he meets the demonic version of Daniel “Danny” Moore(Asher Miles Fallica). We may see why Bing sees the world the way he does in this nightmare. He wakes up as the moon, wearing Charlie Manx’s(Zachary Quinto) face, winks at him.

Trying Out Her Theory With a Witness

Vic McQueen(Ashley Cummings) is pretty sure that her powers help her find things, but isn’t sure how or why she has the powers.

She brings her friend Craig(Dalton Harrod) with her to the bridge, and mentions his long lost stuffed bunny, Leonard. Vic had lost it for him when they were children. She told him to wait at the entrance of the bridge, and she rides into it. Craig wasn’t about to wait, and tries to go through as well, but is knocked out by an unseen force.

Vic returns, holding the bunny, and explains her powers as best she can.

Skankfast at Tiffany’s

Cleaning the Brewster’s house again with her mother, Vic talks about her future. Her mother, Linda(Virgina Kull), mistakes it as talk about working with her. Mrs. Brewster(Karen Pittman) comes in and enlightens Linda, and Linda again rebuffs any ideas of Vic going to college.

Vic had talked to her father(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) the night before, and decides to move in with him and his new skank Tiffany(Jamie Neumann). Arriving unexpectedly, Vic finds Chris and Tiffany are fooling around outdoors in a kiddie pool. Tiffany is obviously not happy with the arrangement, and keeps subtly asking when Vic will be moving out.

The Fight

That night, Linda shows up at Tiffany’s and the three adults start fighting. I have to agree with Linda on this one. Tiffany is already aggressively, jealously wanting Vic out, and the alcohol and toxic atmosphere is not healthy for any child. Linda’s no mental health saint, either, but there is no violence about to happen with her, either.

Vic Meets Maggie

Upset, Vic rides off and across the bridge. She skids her bike, and Maggie(Jahkara J Smith) is there to pick her up. Vic has landed in Here, Iowa, where Maggie has been waiting. Taking her to the library, Maggie explains to Vic both of their powers, and that there are others like them. She tells her about Danny, and it scares Vic. Vic leaves, heading back home, wherever that will be.

The Wraith

Maggie has done research; she knows how rare the 1938 Wraith is, and has tracked down a repair shop. She convinces Sherrif Bly(Chris Mckinney) to come with her to the shop. They remember the car; the owner tells them that when it left, her son and grandson disappeared, too. It isn’t really much help, but it is enough to convince Maggie they are on the right path.

Bing Gets the Job

Take this job and shove it.

Bing is at work, and having a break. He hears Christmas music playing over the radio, even when he unplugs the boom box. He is told to go clean the crude pictures that someone has been spray painting obscene graffiti on the walls-again. While cleaning, the Wraith pulls up, and Bing is invited in. Charlie hands him a soft drink( I think a Moxie) and asks him about the gasses the factory deals with. Bing explains, but grows suddenly sleepy. Charlie has drugged him, and he drives on, headed toward Christmasland.

Bing wakes up, and Charlie tells him they are near Christmasland, but aren’t there quite yet. He has Charlie get out of the car, and he sees a girl trapped under ice. She isn’t dead, Charlie explains. They are standing in The Graveyard of What Might Be. The graveyard contains all the children that Charlie says needs rescuing and taken to Christmasland. The children aren’t dead-yet, he says. Standing int he Graveyard, Charlie tells Bing that he has been chosen to help these children, but it will take work. He will be asked to do things. But Charlie must know Bing is willing to save the children. Bing agrees, and Charlie tells him they are heading back to Massachusetts to stop the girl that is in Charlie’s way…

Thoughts on The Graveyard of What Might Be
  • My heart breaks for Vic. She loves her father, and is trying to justify his actions.
  • I wanted to come through the TV and smack Vic’s father when he told Vic not to touch Tiffany’s stuff in a room of stuff that Tiffany doesn’t use. Your child has more priority than anything, idiot.
  • Maggie is whip smart. She explained things very well to Vic. Not that Vic is stupid, but she just landed several states away with a bleeding eye, and was taken to a library by a girl who can stick her arm into a tiny bag to read Scrabble Tiles, y’know?
  • Linda telling Vic to leave if there was hard liquor…I wanted to hug her. I don’t care for her repressive attitude, but she does love Vic, and thinks she is putting her first.
  • How did they get that graffiti past censors?
  • Vic and Maggie are so nurturing and kind and patient with children. Any scenes with and about them are so heartwarming and affirming.
  • Linda and Vic’s synchronized straw stabbing, though. Hopefully they will start to bond.
  • That nightmare with Danny and the invitation and the moon. The only talking moon I like is on The Mighty Boosh. All others freak me out.
  • That Graveyard is a graveyard of lies, Bing.
