Persona 5 Strikers Game Review
Persona 5 Strikers (otherwise known as “Scramble” in Japan.) Is an action RPG that acts as a direct sequel to Persona 5. However, this game differs in play style. It is a part of the Koei Tecmo and Omega Force “Musou” series of games which involve defeating large hoardes of enemies at once. It is published, as always by Atlus.
Now, I’ve never been shy to admit that Persona 5, whether Royal or original, never really did it for me. Upon reflection that’s more than likely because of the gameplay. The story was damn near perfect but the gameplay? Not so much. So I’m in the minority that thinks Persona 5 is fine but doesn’t understand the obsession. With Strikers though? I may understand it.
Plot
The plot is fairly simple. The Phantom Thieves are planning on going camping for the summer holidays but something shady is happening around a famous pop star. Before long they realise it’s the influence of her shadow self in the metaverse.
It comes to light that there are other incidents like this all over Japan. So that means the Phantom Thieves road trip! Because the game is much more linear than it’s predecessor, it’s plot is pretty simple too. There’s a few side quests with your friends but none of the free roaming you did before.
Review
Like I said. I’m no Persona 5 fan. But Strikers is so different that it fixes pretty much every issue I had with Persona. The story is just as compelling because the characters are just as compelling. The only thing that’s really changed is the gameplay and the fact that it’s a bit more linear now, which I prefer anyway, for this kind of game it’s perfect.
My biggest gripe with Persona 5 was the grindy as hell battle system. I love turn based RPGs that take a while to get used to but Persona 5 took it to such extreme levels that it wasn’t fun anymore. With that no longer being an issue I can enjoy the characters and their stories, the Jail exploration and the battles without getting frustrated.
In fact I love this game! This, in my opinion, should have been what Persona 5 was and is much better than the original. Unfortunately, I can’t see it picking up as much hype as the original did as even most gamers don’t see it as anything more than a spin-off.
Thankfully, those I know who have the game and have played it seem to be loving it as much as me. So Strikers is getting a good reception, which is great!
