Bridgerton

A Netflix Original

Cast of Netflix Bridgerton

I went into Bridgerton knowing nothing about it, only that it was produced by Shonda Rhimes and I have loved pretty much everything she has ever done. So I dived in and I LOVED it. The show is set in the Regency era in England during the season of when debutantes are present to the court. In other words, rich folks want to get their daughters married off but the Queen needs to approve.

The Cast

I really enjoyed the diverse cast. It is really nice to see some many people of color that were not slaves or servants in a period piece. The costumes and sets were just so bright and colorful. Not something you usually see in that era. The Queen’s (Golda Roseheval) hair in every scene was one of my favorite things.

I thought the title of the show was a place but as the show began I quickly found out I was wrong. Bridgerton is not a place but the family’s last name. The Bridgertons are a big family. Daphne Bridgerton, (Phoebe Dynevor) the eldest sister, has come of age and she needs to get married. Her oldest brother Anthony (Jonathon Bailey) will be standing in for their deceased father. He takes this job a little too seriously. He almost makes it impossible for Daphne to find a proper husband.

The Bridgerton Family

The Duke

Enter the Duke, Simon (Basset Rege-Jean Page) who is not looking for a wife but he is very single and he likes to mingle. Side note, there is just something about this man. When he is on the scene you can help watch him. He is very handsome. I love the way  he carries himself and the way he seduces you with his eyes. The Duke and his spoon

Simon also happens to be a friend of Anthony’s from school. Daphne and Simon do not fall in love at first sight. They don’t even seem to like each other at all. But in time they come up with a plan to make each of their lives better. They do end up falling for each other. So much drama in between their coming together. A lot of it because of a newsletter of sorts that just starts showing up and telling everyone’s secrets. Dirty secrets in high society and everyone is all too excited to read the tea!

Lady Whistledown

One of my other favorite parts of the show is that it is narrated by Julie Andrews. She is on the IMBD page as Lady Whistledown but I am not sure she is. Cause you never see her, she only narrates. It has a Gossip Girl feel to it but much classier. Whomever Lady Whistledown is they have everyone wondering who she is and how she knows so much.

The Music

Almost for got to mention the music. Yes it is classical sounding, but if you listen closer you will hear modern pop artists songs transferred to into classical instrumental music. I believe in the first episode I hear Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande. Hearing music changed and remixed to something new is something I just love. This was just another reason why I am in love with this show.

The Book Series

Bridgerton Book Series

I only found after binge watching the entire season that it was based off of a book series called “The Duke and I” A Bridgerton Novel written by Julia Quinn. There are 9 books in total, each following a different Bridgerton sibling. The 2nd season should they follow the books will be “The Viscount Who Loved Me” and I tell you I can’t wait to watch. I am hoping by the time the second season comes on I should have read the entire series.

Tell me did you watch Bridgerton? What did you think? If you didn’t watch it yet, it’s streaming now on Netflix.
