The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8 “The Rescue” Synopsis

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8 “The Rescue” was written by Jon Favreau and directed by once again by Peyton Reed.

Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal),  and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) kidnap Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi) from an Imperial shuttle to get information about Grogus’s whereabouts on Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) light cruiser. The Mandalorian and Boba Fett reach an agreement on the terms of Grogu’s liberation after a fierce argument with Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) of Mandalore. The princess wants the cruiser and the dark sword as a prize. She needs both to liberate Mandalore. From Dr. Pershing they receive detailed information about the structure of the cruiser and the exact whereabouts of Grogu.

By means of a fictitious combat maneuver, everyone gets on board and after heavy fighting they can capture Moff Gideon and free Grogu. But they have to barricade themselves on the bridge to protect themselves against the dark troops. Things are getting even more intense when there is a dispute about the dark sword. Shortly before the dark troops can board the bridge, an X-wing of the New Republic lands with a Jedi on board who destroys the dark troops. He identifies himself as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). After having a short conversation with The Mandalorian, he takes Grogu into care and disembarks. The rest of them stay behind on the bridge. Boba Fett and Fennec (Ming-Na Wen) fly to Tatooine and take possession of the former fortress of Jabba the Hutt.

Plot, Acting and Characters

He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing.

DAMN! What can I say? This was one hell of a rollercoaster ride. I was loving it! There wasn’t any second, where my heart wasn’t pounding crazy. Intense. That’s all I’m going to say. A whole lot intense. You can’t just look away. Every second is filled with emotionally action-packed stuff. Being worried about Grogu most of the time, but what’s new?

Let’s start with the most shocking moment, which I didn’t expect at all. Luke Skywalker. He’s back. As soon as they mentioned an X-wing of the New Republic, that was the moment my heart fell apart. I mean, of course there was a chance for the Jedi to be someone else than Luke, but this one kind of got me the most. Seeing him again together with R2 was a dream, probably for most of the Star Wars fans out there. Hopefully we will get to see some of the training stuff in Season 3. That would be epic.

Another moment which made me go emotional was, when Grogu touched The Mandalorian’s face when they were saying goodbye. The fact, that Grogu is the first “person” to touch his face after such a long time since he swore to the Creed. That was definitely the most beautiful moment. What a scene!

The whole plot for this episode was genius from soup to nuts. There was nothing missing in this season finale. This also counts for the acting. Of course, Pedro was smashing it, but he wasn’t the only one. The chemistry between each and every single one is awesome. Seeing them kicking some asses every single episode is awesome. I already said it, but I will say it again: There’s nothing that could ever stop them. (I hope this won’t change within the next season).

On a side note: I’m still so shocked and excited (but also pretty damn happy) about the fact, that Luke Baines (Shadowhunters) was one of the guest stars for this season finale. Good job!

Final review

You know you care for a show if it can make you cry. This is the truth and the final episode made me go emotional for sure. What a great work of art and what a way to end this season. I will miss watching a new episode every week, but I’m sure this new season is going to be worth the wait. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

We would like to hear your opinion on the season finale. Let us know in the comments or via social media, and don’t forget to join us for upcoming reviews.
