Metallica Release New Track, Announce Album & Tour Dates

Metallica Lux Aeterna Cover

Yeah, you heard. Metal monsters Metallica thundered back onto the scene today with a brand new track, titled Lux Æterna, the first from a brand new album. Check it out!

With a sound that’s both “old” Metallica and new at the same time, I am genuinely excited for the rest of the album if this is what they’ve chosen to kick off with. There’s some definite old school thrash vibes here, when I played the intro for my boyfriend he immediately started humming an Anthrax track, but there’s a modernity in there too. This one is definitely going to be getting replayed a BUNCH between now and the album release.

The Album – 72 Seasons

The new album is titled 72 Seasons, and is set to be released on April  14th 2023. Fans outside of North America who pre-order the album before 23:59 GMT on November 29th will get early access to ticket sales for the tour. Yep, as well as a new single and album,  the band have also confirmed a TWO YEAR world tour.

The Tour!

Metallica World Tour Poster

The tour is definitely going to be unique. Each location will see the band appearing for two nights, playing a different set each night, and with a different opening act each night too. Supporting acts include Volbeat, Pantera, Ice Nine Kills and more. Every show will be performed in the round, harking back to the likes of the Cunning Stunts tour. Missing from the poster is the fact that Metallica have been confirmed to headline two of the four nights of 2023’s Download Festival (Thursday and Saturday) and will be playing a different set each night, in keeping with the rest of the tour.

What do you think of the new track? Will you be picking up the album or buying tour tickets? Let us know in the comments or via our socials.
