MCM London May 2023 Preview – Time To Get Excited!

The last few weeks have seen a slew of guest names released for the next edition of MCM London, due to hit the Excel Centre on May 26th to 28th 2023 – and it promises to be a great way to kick off the summer again!

Guests!

Split across the four main areas covered by MCM London – comics, entertainment, gaming and book – the guest list is already shaping up to be something special.

For comics fans there are already big names such as Gilbert Hernandez (Love and Rockets), Jock (Batman) and Ram V (The Many Lives of Laila Star), as well as upcoming superstar Zoe Thorogood (It’s Lonely At The Centre of the Earth) and artist extrodinaire Tula Lotay (Barnstormers). Artist alley is always the place to be if you are looking for new independent titles, prints and original art.

Literary guests include sci-fi and fantasy tour de force Adrian TchaikovskyGodkiller author Hannah Kaner, and Atlas Six bestselling author Olivie Blake, with more to be announced. Appearing on the Creator Stage all weekend, there is a strong fantasy-bent to the authors already named.

The entertainment guests are where the biggest names crop up though, and even with the small number of guests annoucned so far this year is no exception. With famed actor Dace Bradley, both Harvey Guillen and Kayvan Novak from What We Do In The Shadows, voice actors from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon, and plenty more yet to be announced.

Features!

As always there will be something for everyone at MCM London, with returning areas such as Artist Alley, the Tree House family zone and Cosplay Central.

The Cosplay Central stage will have a host of panels about everything cosplay from members of the cosplay community; from cosplay showcases, advice on taking part in competitions and getting started with wigs to getting that perfect cosplay picture and tips to make your cosplay even better. There will be the regular cosplay hospital – for those unfortunate accidents that we all know occur – as well as costume displays for future inspiration.

Pop Asia has a performance space, where you can join in with dance lessons, watch demonstrations, and play games. There is a food court area where you can sample everything from Onigiri, Lumpia and Udon noodles to tasty Taiyaki, fluffy Bao Buns and Bubble Tea.

Gaming!

This year MCM are expanding the gaming section – following fan feedback – and hosting not only a new tabletop gaming area, but also beginner level Dungeons and Dragons games all weekend, and both friendly and tournament card games.

This new gaming area also doubles up as a quieter space for those who want a break from the hustle and bustle of the show floor, as it is going to be located upstairs from the main event.

If you prefer your games with added pixels, there is also the Side Quest gaming area, featuring free to play consoles and PCs, as well as a full retro gaming area with old-school gaming systems for everyone to have a crack at.

About author(s)

Sarah Miles

Hailing from the South Coast of England, I've been called a "genius" by Jock, an "influencer" by Paul Cornell and "almost normal" by a medical professional. I enjoy comics, movies, games (tabletop, computer and board), books and cakes. I can often be found on twitter spouting random nonsense about all of these things, when I'm not at the gym training for my next strongwoman competition.
