Summertime Render “Jamais Vu” Review
Summertime Render “Jamais Vu” is the fourth episode of the Summertime Render anime. Following Ushio’s appearance at the end of episode 3. Shinpei refuses to believe it’s her but she isn’t like other Shadows and can’t remember anything from before Shinpei found her. Convinced she’s a Shadow of some form but not the murdering kind he hides her and runs to the temple where they’re concluding the festival. Where things aren’t exactly as they seem.
Shinpei’s Dilemma
This episode immediately had me scared because for the majority of it, it takes a massive turn towards being comedic and light hearted, something that’s only been seen in parts of episode 1. Immediately something suspicious was afoot but I was not prepared for it to take the turn it did. Shinpei being copied I suppose makes sense and the fact that he’s been copied before, Mio hinted at that in episode 2. But to have it confirmed and see that the Shadows are far more organised than previously assumed.
They’re not mindlessly killing people, there’s a plan here, someone called Mother it’s also heavily implied that Ushio’s Shadow is the traitor that they speak of and that there’s far more Shadows on the Island now than previously thought.
I loved it, at first I thought the entire show was about to take a sudden turn into rom-com and I was worried for it but then things became suspicious and I realised it was just clever directing sending me into a false sense of security before throwing the mother of all curve balls.
Why can’t Ushio remember anything? Is she really the traitor Shadow? Who’s Mother and what’s this all got to do with the woman on the boat? I can’t wait to find out. This really is the series of the season and this is the best episode so far.
