The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1 “The Marshal” Review

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is finally here, with an episode airing weekly from October 30 on Disney +. Our The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1 review is here, but if you’re a little behind the curve since the first season ended. Don’t worry, we got you!

Previously on The Mandalorian:

The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) is a lone fighter, who is earning his living as a bounty hunter. He made a name for himself because of different missions. One day he is hired to trace “The Child”, also known as Baby Yoda, and chooses to go on the run to protect the infant. While The Mandalorian is trying to learn more about The Child’s origins, they are pursued by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

Season 2 Episode 1 “The Marshal” review

The episode was written and directed by the series’ creator Jon Favreau. It’s his directorial debut in the series and there might be more to come.

One of the first lines spoken in The Mandalorian Season 2 premiere is “Enjoy the fights” and that’s some good advise I can tell. They are still looking for the child’s orgins and while doing so, they are coming to a remote town on a very familiar planet, where The Mandalorian is forced into an alliance with the local marshal, also known as Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), to face a very big threat.

Acting and Characters

Timothy Olyphant is a great addition to the cast, who puts the finishing touches on a long list of talented actors. Both of them together are an unbeatable duo. Hopefully we will get to see more of them in the upcoming episodes. I mean, you always meet twice, right?
One thing that shouldn’t be missing when talking bout the series is some Baby Yoda content. As always, he is cute to look at and is popping in every then and now. He never disappoints us , but I guess that’s a fact you might already know by now. Some hiding when situations are getting rough and secretly following The Mandalorian everywhere he goes.
Talking bout The Mandalorian: He is being the badass babysitter, nothing changed since Season 1 ended. Always fighting and trying to save the day with his actions. But who knows if he will be able to deal with the creature in Episode 1 of Season 2. All I can say is: Get ready for something “huge”.

Plot

About the plot, one can say that it’s definitely a good start for Season 2, but in my opinion the threat they are dealing with in the first episode is a bit overdone. I do understand, that they wanna start with a banger to introduce the new season, but a little less wouldn’t have done any harm.

However, the relationship between the local marshal and The Mandalorian is quite promising and creates an appetite for more. I also do like the fact, that we get to know a bit about some details of the local marshal’s past. Therefore it all makes sense in the end.

Final review

The threat, which is introduced in the first episode, may or may not be a bit too much, but that’s just a matter of taste. Besides that it’s definitely a good start to introduce the new season with a lot of action, some cute Baby Yoda moments and a promising bromance between The Mandalorian and the local marshal. There is no doubt that this episode gave an appetite for more. Let’s see what the future holds for us. Do you think that they will find out more about the child’s orgins in the next episode?

We would like to hear your opinion. Let us know in the comments or via social media, and don’t forget to join us this week when we will be back reviewing the next episode.

If you need to catch up, don’t worry! Season 1 is available on Disney +.
