9-1-1 – Desperate Measures Review

9-1-1 – Desperate Measures is a continuation and conclusion of the previous week’s episode; we last saw Harry Grant (Marcanthonee Reis) being kidnapped by Jeffery Hudson (Noah Bean) all the while the city of Los Angeles is still in a citywide blackout.

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Monday’s night’s episode “Desperate Measures“. Read at your own risk!

Like Every Villain Ever

The episode starts off a little differently as we’re put into Jeffery’s perspective to all the events that led up to the kidnapping of Harry, Athena’s (Angela Bassett) son. Like every villain ever, Jeffery decides to mock Athena over the phone; like that is going to do any good. So, while the police are on a man hunt for Jeffery Hudson; Athena and Michael (Rockmond Dunbar) are not going to sit idly by, they have a plan.

Next, we are taken to a 911 call with the 118 in the PPZ otherwise known as the autonomous cop free zone on Santa Monica and Vermont. Which basically means no city official can pass the barricades. But Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) doesn’t listen and immediately goes to the victim. It’s then that Bobby tells the rest of the crew about Harry being kidnapped.

The Search for Henry Continues

Back to Athena and Michael, it’s now when Athena informs Michael why Jeffery as a vendetta against her; it’s because she shot off his man parts. In Athena’s words, his ‘magic wand’. Their daughter May (Corinne Massiah) calls to let her parents know that there was a sighting of Harry on social media. All the while Jeffery tells Harry that it’s no one’s fault that this is happening but it’s his mother’s, Athena’s fault. Jeffery calls Athena back to tell her where she can meet him, a place where no police is allowed and she has to be alone; the autonomous zone.

Once Athena is in the autonomous zone, she informs them that she is looking for a cop and processed to show them the footage that was collected earlier of Jeffery with Harry when he was pretending to be the detective. The footage is flooded through the people of the zone until they spot him lurking in the shadows and corned him in the subway.

Obviously, Athena is going to go after him; telling him she just wants her son and that she will let him walk free. Before Jeffery could sneak further into the subway, the 118 light him up with their headlights. Just as Jeffery points the gun towards Bobby, Athena shoots him multiple times. We have one problem; we still don’t know where Harry is.

Everyone is called out to a possible location of where Harry could be; every house within a community that was never completed is to be checked. As they all group back together they find wet paint and eventually they find Harry in the wall, who is unconscious for a moment, but with the 118 on the scene you know he’s in good hands.

The power is back!

As the episode concludes the power returns to the city. Everyone is happy for electricity.  The 118 groups back together in the firehouse, with Bobby at the hospital with Harry and Athena; the squad is wondering who is in charge. Our teams are talking to the loved ones who they haven’t seen since the power outage begin.

Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) now has to deal with the aftermath of his issue of every time Eddie thinks about or thinking about a future with Ana (Gabrielle Walsh), he tends to have a panic attack.  He brings up the fact that his son loves her, he just thought that eventually he would too. Thats just wrong, bad Eddie.

As Chimney (Kenneth Choi) arrives home, he greeted by an empty house when he gets a phone call from Bobby. As Chimney arrives at the station, he is greeted by his baby daughter, Jee, there and no Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Maddie left a video for Chimney telling him that their daughter isn’t safe with her at the moment and that she is better off without her. Hearing her speak like that, broke my heart; Maddie has been dealing with so much.
