Little Nightmares 2 Game Review

Little Nightmares 2 is the sequel to the massively successful indie game Little Nightmares. Not only does LN 2 deliver 100% but it actually improves on the original game entirely.

Developed by the award winning Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Plot

Despite being a sequel to Little Nightmares, 2 is a sequel story wise. It follows Mono a young boy, who then teams up with Six, the girl from the first Little Nightmares game. Together the avoid and battle through a world full of monsters.

That’s probably the best I can give without major spoilers to be honest. Not only that but this isn’t exactly a game that has a conventional story but I mean that in a good way.

Review

Like I said LN2 improves on LN in every way. It doesn’t remove any of the best parts of the original and even adds some features. However the features it does add aren’t many so the simplicity of the gameplay is kept. This is definitely key as simplicity is exactly why the original is so good. That and the monsters you need to avoid.

I thought the game was alot more simplistic and not as scary as the original to begin with I was quickly proven wrong, as I got to the second level and the boss there, the schoolteacher, I was sufficiently creeped out enough to start swearing at the TV.

The added features are great. Playing the game with Six consistently with Mono definitely lulls you into a false sense of security. I found LN2 to be just as tricky, if not more than the original.

That’s one thing I found however, playing the game, I would often overthink the segments and puzzles. Making the game harder than it had to be but it a was a natural reaction to do so. I’m not sure if the devs meant to do that but if they did they’re geniuses, I always found myself doing it. To the point where I’d get fully annoyed with the game before realising I was the problem.
