‘Insurgent’ trailer to debut with ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

If your anything like me you’ve pretty much worn out your Divergent DVD, so the release of the second movie Insurgent can’t come soon enough. Luckily, it sounds like we’ll be getting our first look at the Shailene Woodley and Theo James follow-up pretty soon.

The cast is currently busy shooting the next film based on Veronica Roth’s book series in Atlanta, and while it won’t hit cinemas until next March, we should be gifted with the first trailer this November.

SeekingAlpha.com have published a transcript of Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer leading a conference on the studio’s first quarter earnings, and while all the money-talk makes for pretty boring reading, the studio bigwig did let slip some exciting news.

Gleefully discussing just how much money Divergent has made them since it hit cinemas in the Spring, Feltheimer explained: “All the signs are pointing to it growing into another big young adult franchise like Twilight and The Hunger Games.”

“With the first Insurgent trailer slated to debut with the release of Mockingjay in November, skyrocketing book sales, a stellar home entertainment launch and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort, generating ever-increasing online buzz, I think you can understand why we believe that the Divergent series is becoming very special.”

The first Insurgent trailer will premiere with the release of the next movie in the studio’s other big franchise, The Hunger Games, this November!

That wasn’t the only teaser to come out of the conference though, as Feltheimer hints of a spin-off could be in the works. He took questions, with someone asking what we’ve all been wondering:

“Is there opportunities, I guess, around for these franchises, with Four being an example, to do other films that haven’t been announced yet?”

Feltheimer didn’t reveal much but DID say: “I think as I’ve said before, we certainly hope so.”

Four could get his own movie!

Roth recently released her new spin-off book ‘Four: A Divergent Collection’ which ditches Shailene’s Tris to follow Theo James’ hero in his early days as a Dauntless initiate. And if Feltheimer is true to his word, Lionsgate could be developing a movie based on the five short stories included in the collection.

That doesn’t necessarily mean a return for Theo though, as most of the stories are set before the action in Divergent when Tobias/Four is just a teen. 29-year-old Theo would be a tad too old we reckon, especially as his character was already aged up for the Divergent movie.

BUT one of the short stories in the collection, The Traitor, catches up with the events of the first book, with the action seen from Four’s point of view. So surely that means at least a cameo for Theo? Until we hear more we’ll be looking forward to the first Insurgent trailer this November.
