Five Nights at Freddy’s Review

The highly anticipated movie Five Nights at Freddy’s dropped in theaters and on Peacock on October 27th. Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the very popular video game created by Scott Cawthon. The film stars Josh Hutcherson as a troubled security guard who accepts a night-time job at an abandoned family entertainment center, where he discovers its four animatronic mascots move and kill anyone that is still there after midnight. Below is our review of Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Standout Moments

One of the biggest things I love about the movie is how they mixed the games’ lore into the movie, but still made it have its own identity. The game lore itself is still mixed with a lot of theories, so they did a really great job capturing the main theory. For a moment, we got to see Mike and Abby (Piper Rubio) friendly with Freddy and the gang before everything went downhill. The building of the fort scene was seriously the most adorable moment, something I never expected to say about a Horror Movie.

I have to say that the editing of this movie is beyond great, and it’s some of the little things that you don’t notice at first. For example, every time they showed the mystery kids in the forest with Mike, some of their faces were blurred out. Like maybe they were forgetting who they were. But you don’t really notice this at first. I have to point out that the transition from child Foxy to animatronic Foxy was top-tier. I could watch that moment over and over again.

Not gonna lie, my excitement was out of this world when we finally saw the animatronics move on the security cameras. Or my excitement when the yellow rabbit made his appearance. I have to say that Cupcake stole the movie for me.

Overall Thoughts

As someone who loves the games this movie was fantastic! Sometimes when games get turned into movies, I tend to get a little worried as they tend to get off the game or don’t leave any room. This movie erased all doubts. The movie moves at a steady pace, picking up activity as it progresses, just like in the game. I will say that I did find some of the dialogue to be lacking in some areas or that some scenes were very slow or off.

Josh Hutcherson playing security guard Mike Schmidt was beyond great. The amount of name drops to many characters of the game; such as Vanessa Shelley (Elizabeth Lail) and Steve Raglan / William Afton (Matthew Lillard). Mike Schmidt is also a familiar name as it’s the name that appears on the paychecks when you complete the games.

I really enjoyed this movie and hope that we get a sequel that dives more into the FNAF lore and games. If you love the game then you’ll definitely love this movie.
