Disney+ Early Impressions

Disney+ banning VPN accounts

Disney+ Early Impressions

Right off the bat I’ll start positive. I will admit to being one of the naysayers, the people who weren’t all that invested in Disney+ as a service and thought it would, inevitably do well, but for me be a little bit too much as I already am subscribed to Netflix and others.

Boy was I wrong…

Disney+ advertised itself as being able to stream everything Disney has currently and has had historically and the latter is honestly where this service shines! When they say everything, they mean everything, it’s all there. From the things you used to watch every day when you came home as a kid or had on VCR and rewound the tape again and again just to listen to “Under the Sea” just one more time, to the things currently popular with teenagers now (things that perhaps our own children will have watched or are watching.) It’s there. Ripe for the picking and ready to play (or download) immediately.

Under Pressure

I will admit to being extremely impressed with how well the app holds up under all the traffic. I’ve had zero issues with the app itself whilst streaming and downloading and only ever had an outage due to overloaded servers once, and that only lasted an hour, the interface is clean and clear and fun to scroll around. It’s easy to navigate and you can have up to 7 people on one account. So if you and a friend, or family and friends together pay for this service monthly it adds up to less than $1 per person per month and that’s not taking into consideration how much you save if you pay yearly and all chip in.

When it comes to the catalogue of films and TV shows to watch it can get a bit overwhelming at first. Especially if, like me, you have a hard time picking something and sticking to it. The sheer number of things to choose from can be daunting. Another thing I must praise Disney for is the fact that they’ve not censored any of the older material that’s on there, they do show a disclaimer in the top left corner of the stream and in its description box but they’ve not outwardly censored anything which is something I will admit I was worried about. Whether this will stay this way remains to be seen but for now Disney have made the right call and left things as they were with a warning to viewers that it may contain sensitive material.

My mind and attitude towards Disney+ has been completely changed. I love it, can see myself using it as my main streaming service for the foreseeable future.
