Combatants Will Be Dispatched “How To Defeat An Evil Leader” Review

Combatants Will Be Dispatched “How To Defeat An Evil Leader” is the fourth episode of the Combatants anime. Just like in episode 3 Agent 6 is given a chance to prove his combat ability. Things aren’t quite what they seem though.

Time for Battle

Agent 6 and Snow are called into a meeting with the King and the Strategist. The same strategist guy who clearly hates Agent 6. They’re sent on a mission to take out Heine and her army. As the King says the Demon Lord’s army is getting desperate. Knowing full well this is a ruse by the Strategist to get rid of him. Agent 6 mentions how shady he is to Snow on the battlefield before the fight.

The fight begins. But in her army Heine has the griffon and a rock golem. Which isn’t going to be easy to defeat. As the battle rages on, Alice sends off for some C4 to blow the golem up. But it takes awhile to come as Alice mentions in their time, it’s lunch time. Agent 6 has no choice but to remove the restraints on his suit. This does give him super strength but only for 1 minute and he there’s a 3 minute cooldown period. The C4 finally arrives as Agent 6 throws the golem into the air and is set off by Alice. Blowing it up. Heine comes to kill Agent 6 (or recruit him) whilst he relies on the others to keep him safe for 3 minutes.

Protecting Agent 6

Heine overhears them talk about him not being able to move and goes to attack them all but Grimm wakes up and curses her. Paralyzing her for a while. As Snow goes to stop her from harming Agent 6, Heine loses her magicite. Which she relies on for her magic.

The team use this as a way to blackmail her and Agent 6 racks up a huge number of evil points by taking lewd photos of her.

Back home Snow is interrupted by the Strategist and he tries to convince her to spy on Agent 6 and Alice. She takes the money but is still fighting with her conscience when she overhears Alice and Agent 6 chatting. They mention being spies and wanting to set up base camp, she overhears and asks what they mean by “spy” and the episode ends.

Review

Man I loved this episode. It had all the comedy gold of the previous one but managed to weave in a serious storyline where Agent 6 might actually lose all he and Alice have gained so far. The fact that nobody questions why Agent 6 is so scummy is still hilarious to me and there are cute little call-backs to the earlier episodes showing their growth as a team. Typical shounen stuff, clearly having a little dig, it’s subtle but funny.

Almost everyone has had character growth to the point that Snow can’t imagine having a team that doesn’t consist of all of them. It’s, again, more subtle than the other stuff, like them bonding over drinks but it’s still there and still good damn writing.

My main takeaway from the episode is that Griffon doesn’t taste all that good. And if Rose says it then it must be true.
