Attack On Titan Episode 70 Review

Attack On Titan 70 is here and once again we have an episode that bridges the gap between tensions rising between the two forces at war here.

This episode focuses mainly on Gabi and Falco. Who name themselves Ben and Mia. When they’re rescued by a girl who lives on Historia’s farm for orphans.

Overview

The girl who rescues them is the young girl rescued by Sasha. Way back in episode 27. Though this isn’t explicitly mentioned in the episode, the farm is called Braus Farm and there’s a small flashback to that episode.

Attack On Titan Hanji's struggle

Meanwhile the Azumabito clan are using the iceburst stone to upgrade their ships. And Hanji is having to deal with a breakaway group of people, led by Floch, who have leaked military secrets about Eren to the public.

The show ends with what’s left of the Marley Titan crew deciding the only realistic action to take is to attack Paradis Island now. Waiting would be too risky and they’re all still reeling from Zeke’s apparent betrayal.

Review

This is actually one of the better slow burn episodes. Gabi, as much as I don’t like her, really made me emotional here. It’s obvious she hates her heritage. And has been brainwashed into believing she has to make up for it in every step of her life. She’s conflicted and it leads to her lashing out for no reason at people. She genuinely can’t understand why someone on Paradis would help someone from Marley and it’s more tragic than anything.

Unlike episode 69 that showed things happening years before to provide context and show how much people have changed. This episode kinda relies on people having seen most of the rest of AoT in order to keep up. So a rematch may be needed. Though definitely not necessary.

The best part of this episode is that it focuses on characters that haven’t really had screen time before. It’s showing those that will likely become big players in the episodes to come and it sets up the impossible situation perfectly.
