Chainsaw Man “Arrival In Tokyo” Review

Chainsaw Man “Arrival In Tokyo” is the second episode of the Chainsaw Man anime. Following immediately from episode 1, after Denji wakes up in the transport car with Makima next to him Denji and Makima finally find a rest area. After eating in the rest area, Denji and Makima arrive at the Devil Hunters Headquarters in Tokyo. Denji wishes to team up with Makima, but she introduces him to Aki Hayakawa, a Public Safety Devil Hunter who takes Denji out on patrol. Aki and Denji get into a fight during the patrol, with Aki telling Denji he should quit for his own safety, but Denji believe it’s because Aki also has feelings for Makima. Denji and Aki return to Makima where she tells them to work together. The next day, Denji and Aki are on a mission as they spot a Fiend where Denji killed him using an axe. Back in the headquarters where Makima introduces the new partner named Power, she warns them that Power is a Fiend. Denji is surprised and wonders if Fiends can be Devil Hunters. After Makima explains about the Fiends and their experimental team which will be dissolved soon, Denji goes out with Power who gets annoying and slap him, telling him to provide something she can kill as she is starving for blood. Denji realizes that Aki had set him up and is trying to get him fired. As they are searching for devils, Power smells blood and starts to run where she spotted a Sea Cucumber Devil. She jumps from the building and smashes the devil using her hammer formed with blood.

Review

Honestly thought this show couldn’t get any better and then we get this, Denji showing his street cred by fighting dirty as hell, the perfect way to show the two men’s different personalities. Aki going for a face punch which is very much standard and what you’d expect but losing in the end to Denji basically breaking the rules and going straight for the testicles every time.

Power’s introduction was fantastic, I can tell she’s already going to be a favourite, if not a fan favourite then my favourite. I love her ability! I also like that the world is slowly opening up, we’re learning things not in one big info dump but slowly and surely just as Denji is, makes it harder for the audience to judge him for being a little naïve when it comes to Makima.
