The episode starts with an accountant working late when a man breaks in and accidentally sets himself on fire. The victim was being audited. Athena arrives to help issue a warrant and takes the suspect, Dominic (Walter Belenky), into custody. While driving him to the station, Dominic suddenly loses consciousness. Athena calls for backup and paramedics manage to get a pulse before taking him to the hospital where he later passed away. Athena talks to Bobby (Peter Krause) about the incident in her cruiser and discusses what happened.

At home, Maddie and Chimney get a letter from the IRS informing them that they are being audited. Chimney informs the team about the audit, asking the team for any advice or help. Our next emergency is at a funeral when a car crashed through the chapel. The team is working on the diver and other victims. Bobby and Buck (Oliver Stark) working on getting a woman out from under the car. As Buck, Hen (Aisha Hinds), and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) are working on the victim from under the car they found out that it was a living funeral.

Buck talks to Natalia, an end-of-life doula, about his experience of being struck by lightning and dying briefly. She asks him out for coffee.

“Firefighter and Philosopher. Noted.” – Natalia (Annelise Cepero)

Maddie and Chimney are at the IRS where they are told they are there for tax fraud. Since the couple live at the same residence, they filed separately, and they both claimed head of household. They also claimed their daughter on their taxes. They are given a chance to fix their mistake. During his coffee date with Natalia, Buck tells her about his time in his coma/dreamland. Athena visits the morgue about her deceased suspect, Dominic, where she finds out that the body in the morgue is not her suspect. With Bobby’s help, she figured out when the suspect was able to fake his death.

Realizing where the suspect was headed too, Athena waited for him and was able to arrest him. As she found him, she also found the money that he had stolen as well. In the police station, Dominic collapsed again. The 118 arrived at the scene, Hen and Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody) worked on him and once again he died at the scene.

Later, Buck tells Eddie about his date with Natalia, and Eddie points out that Buck hasn’t been the same since his accident. Maddie and Chimney get some advice from the accountant that Chimney met earlier, before they file their taxes next year that they should get married to save about $14,000.

Overall Thoughts

We got to see more storylines for our favorite characters in this episode, though it was a slow-paced episode. There is a possibility of Maddie and Chimney getting married. It makes perfect sense why Maddie is hesitant about getting married again with everything she has gone through with her ex. Even though she and Chimney are raising their daughter together under one roof. Through his conversations with Natalia, Buck may eventually be able to accept everything that he has been through as a result of his accident, and learn from it. We also got to see some of the chaos that is happening at Eddie’s home, which is a little refreshing instead of seeing everything going smoothly.
