Review

Team 86 are finally taken to the front lines in a super high tech plane. Preparing for the attack the entire episode, Frederica throws a tantrum about the fact that none of her friends have questioned how they’ll get back from behind enemy lines. Something Shin and the others don’t seem to even care about now. Whilst she argues with Shin personally calling out his behaviour and comparing it to Kiriya’s when he went mad. She begs him not to go. Using all the manipulation tactics her powers allow her to use, clearly getting to him, more than he lets on. But the conclusion of the fight is never seen. And Shin and the others leave.

What’s different about this episode is just how many people have team 86’s backs. Grethe clearly tells them she wants the Federation to become a place they can finally have hopes and dreams for themselves. Ernst sees them off with a message stating that the most important part of the mission is that they come back alive and even the other soldiers fight on sacrificing themselves in the knowledge that the 86 will complete their mission.

Things are a far cry from when they first got to the Federation. It’s not perfect but it’s clearly enough to light a small spark of hope. Even in Shin. Who slowly seems to be losing his mind. Something Frederica is desperate not to allow happen…

A great episode leading to an even bigger cliff-hanger. Will the mission be a success? How will they get back? Will Shin finally snap soon? I can’t wait for the next episode to find out!
