Captain America: Civil War to crossover with Luke Cage?

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s news about the events of Captain America: Civil War having a major impact on this season of Agents of SHIELD, it has now come to light that another crossover could be happening in the form of Alfre Woodard.

Several sources including ComicBook.com are reporting that Woodard, who is set to play Mariah Dillard in Luke Cage, has a role in the third outing for Marvel’s First Avenger.

This evidently comes from a list, provided by Disney, of the cast members who will be attending the Captain America World Premiere next week. Luke Cage himself, Mike Colter, is also on the list, along with cast members from the Netflix/Marvel show Daredevil and Agents of SHIELD, but those names are apparently listed as Special Guests, whereas Woodard is a Cast Member.

So if Woodard has a role in the movie, that brings up another question – would she be playing Mariah Dillard or another, unrelated character? The latter seems unlikely, not with Luke Cage due relatively soon after Captain America: Civil War, since it could confuse and potentially annoy audiences who are hanging on for any connections between the big screen Marvel Cinematic Universe and the small screen exploits of The Defenders and the team at SHIELD.

But that’s what ScreenCrush say. According to them, Woodard has a small but pivotal role right at the start of Civil War, playing the mother of an American citizen who was killed in Sokovia. She confronts Tony Stark about it and that is what sets him on his path in the movie. Given the fact that filming on Civil War wrapped last year, and the casting for Luke Cage only emerged a short time ago it is possible that she will play two different roles.

This wouldn’t be the first time this has happened. The eagle eyed among you may remember seeing Enver Gjokaj as a cop during the Chitauri Invasion in the first Avengers movie and then he returned to the universe as Agent Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter.

What do you guys think? Do you think there need to be more crossovers between the big and small screen parts of the MCU or are they fine with occasional mentions and leaving it at that? I’d love to know what you think so hit me up with your comments.
