The casting search for younger mutants in X-Men: Apocalypse is over, with director Bryan Singer announcing on his Twitter page that Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) will play Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan (Tree of Life) is starring as Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp (Drumline: A New Beat) will take on Storm.

All three actors were mentioned as contenders for their respective roles in a report earlier this month. Saoirse Ronan was also up for Jean Grey, with Zendaya Coleman up for Storm and Taron Egerton and Jamie Blackley in contention for Cyclops. Oddly enough, Taron Egerton definitively stated yesterday that he was not playing Cyclops, and now we know why.
Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed in September that X-Men: Apocalypse will feature younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm, since the story is set in the 1980s. Very little is known about the story, except that it ends the trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class and continued with last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Bryan Singer is directing from a script he is working on with Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.
Oscar Issac revealed while promoting A Most Violent Year, that he would be playing the villainous Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. He included his powers and special effects. “One of his major powers is being able to change all the molecules in his body,” he explained. “So I’ll be changing all the molecules in my body. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.” Isaac went on to say that the character won’t be completely CG. “It’ll be a mix of practical and digital,” he said. “I haven’t had a script so I haven’t had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology.”
X-Men: Apocalypse comes to theaters May 27th, 2016 and stars Oscar Isaac, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.
