A great story, with callbacks to the movie and new vampire abilities to add to canon.

  • Laszlo gets captured in bat form by animal control, and has to rely on Colin Robinson and Nandor to free him.
  • Nadja spends an evening with the latest incarnation of her human lover, Gregor/Jeff.

An Evening Stroll

Laszlo(Matt Berry) and Nadja(Natasia Demetriou)are out for a post feeding stroll. Nadja wants to spice up their un-life. Laszlo wants to feed on the neighbor while Nadja watches. Bored, she leaves. She doesn’t see the neighbor’s girlfriend come in and attack a bat-formed Laszlo.

Nandor(Kayvan Novak), however, sees what is happening because he is spying on the couple with his familiar, Guillermo(Harvey Guillen).

He is too late to save Laszlo. Animal control has already picked him up. Colin Robinson(Mark Proksch) is about to have a very good night.

Nadja and Jrevv Jefsch new Gregor

Nadja has gone in search of Jeff(Jake McDorman), the latest incarnation of her human lover, Gregor. He takes her to a carnival. Turns out he is very boring. His last incarnations of warrior, wax seller, monger of all kinds, wash woman, horse, were so much more exciting. She decides to bring his memories of his former lives forth, and things get interesting. It also drives Jeff crazy. Such is love. It’s only fair, really, as he made Nadja eat a piece of popcorn. And we all know what happens when vampires eat human food…

Rescuing Laszlo

The trio of would be rescuers make it to the Staten Island animal shelter, and after a failed hypnotism, Nandor turns into a bat and finds an open window. Colin is feasting on the staff with his banal droning about the proper forms he needed to fill out and not fill out. Nandor grabs the carrier with the bat, and frees it. It is not Laszlo. It seems that Nandor released a sick bat that had been treated in the shelter. Oops! Nandor then decides to turn into a dog and get captured. He gets caged, and locked up. So…what was Nandor’s plan again? Laszlo believes he has formed a union with the cats in the room. Laszlo has never had cats as pets, has he?

Nadja to the Rescue

Riding around town with a stolen police horse and a now obviously near mad Jeff, they make their way back to his workplace-a parking garage. Planning a tryst, Nadja receives a phone call. Guillermo tells him of Laszlo’s predicament, and she turns into a horde of rats to escape. This pushes Jeff over the edge into the mouth of madness. We see him in a police car, describing Nadja’s rat transformation and his reincarnation to them. It is not going well for the guy.

Within a minute of her arrival, she has the code to get to the caged animals, the two vampires are freed, and they head home. Laszlo has released his feline compatriots, and they are just about as thankful as cats can be…

Thoughts on “Animal Control”

  • Matt Berry, again, brings the hilarity with every scene. You really must catch his work on The IT Crowd and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace
  • I don’t know how Natasia keeps a straight face with the situations her character is put in. The scene with Jeff forcing her to eat popcorn is laugh out loud funny. I loved her take charge attitude at the animal shelter.
  • Even though she isn’t listed on IMDB, pretty sure that is the fantastic actress Siobhan Fallon Hogan as the animal control officer that takes a pic of Bat Laszlo’s…lack of need of Viagra…
  • I can’t believe us humans either, Nadja. 12345 is a bad code.
  • The writers having Nandor spying on the married Nadja and Laszlo didn’t seem creepy, it made him seem a gossipy old woman, and I loved it. His constant nitpicking of Guillermo because he isn’t a vampire has got to be pushing him to doing something horrible soon.
  • Hilarious that Nadja and Laszlo’s sexy talk is so incredibly tame, considering his love of naughty topiary.

What We Do in the Shadows airs Wednesdays at 10:00 on FX!
