The Challenges of Building a Dalek: Part 18

Be sure to read the previous parts of The Challenges of Building a Dalek. Since the last update, we have been dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Luckily, my area did not experience a direct hit but did experience winds between 80 and 120 mph. Derek the Dalek was outside for the entire storm as we could not fit him through any doorways. There were times during the storm when he wobbled from the gusts of wind, but I’d say he faired out very well for his first major storm. This most likely will not be his last hurricane. After the storm, he did have a few twigs sticking out, and some dirt and grass against his panels; other than that, there has been no damage.

Dalek Build -- Part 18 -- dalek after the storm

All construction of our dalek has come to a complete pause for the time being as we are unable to get some of the supplies. Also, some of the supplies we did have on hand, we had to use for the house preparation and aftermath of the storm. As construction supplies are being moved to the worst areas, prices have also increased for the time being. Although, while the power was out, we were able to make two resin half balls before running out of resin.

Dad pointed out that Derek the Dalek is a recon dalek; he assessed the storm and survived it. He has earned his stripes.

Current Design

Currently, the neck is about 10 inches in height; and about 16 inches in diameter. When you add it to the base it stands at 62.5 inches, 1587.5 millimeters, including the wheels. Derek the Dalek is currently a bright hunter green and will be having soul-sucking black hemispheres around the base. We are in the process of looking for another electronic wheelchair to make today’s version of the dalek.
