The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace “Colour” Review

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace “Colour” is the fifth episode of the Idaten anime. Continuing on from the cliff-hanger ending in episode 4. The team-ups begin and the gang learn new information about the demon army.

Plot

Hayato and Paula go hand to hand against Cory, whilst Prontea has fun with Neput. Meanwhile, trapped, Ysley takes on Piscalat in a battle of wits. He surmises many things but his main message is that whilst the demons think they’ve got a one up by being given human intelligence. It isn’t really because now they’re weak to the things humans are weak to, like shame, which he proves by stripping her clothes of her. Before, the demons were only a real threat because they lacked that intelligence and went on a mad rampage not considering the consequences of their actions.

Piscalat doesn’t want to hear it but is caught off by Ysley again when he uses a narcotic and aphrodisiac cocktail against her. She’s helpless and is left to him to dissect. Whilst the others finish off their battles, they give the other two demons to Ysley too. All of them have brain surgery and Ysley fixes whatever the professor did. They happily share information with the Idaten about their forces. In particular warning of Miku who is a human demon hybrid with extraordinary observational insight. Piscalat warns that taking them on would be a risk purely because of her, she’ll see the attack coming and be able to warn people.

The conversation is also had about what the professor actually is. He’s clearly not ageing like a normal human but he has intelligence that can’t be explained if he’s a demon. That’s when Paula suggests that he may be an Idaten made up of the thoughts of the demons stored away in the seal. It’s brushed off. But even Miku notices something off with the professor. He knows Rin’s name when he shouldn’t.

Review

Whilst this an information heavy episode, it’s actually pretty key. Alot about how the demons are born is explained here. And their new supposed weaknesses. Barcode and Miku, the hybrids are very interesting and I’ve a feeling they’ll be key players later on in the show. Having the true nature of the professor being discussed is interesting as I’m certain Paula has a point. The only explanation away from it was “why doesn’t he know anything about Idaten then?” But I’m sure that has an explanation also.

Overall a brilliant episode with interesting themes and I feel we’re getting into the more meaty parts of the story now.
