The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace “The Black South” Review

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace “The Black South” is the second episode of the Idaten anime. This episode focuses more on expanding what Idaten are from the explanation in episode 1 but also more about what’s coming. Especially when it comes to the demons.

Plot

The beginning of the episode shows Ysley and Paula considering what to do next. But typical of him, Ysley already has a plan of action. Not knowing the true intentions of Oobami it’s best they stay close to Rin as they’re not likely to be picked off that way. He’s not thrilled about this plan though because it means training with her. And Rin’s idea of training is beating the crap out of the person until they can take it. Fine for Hayato but not for Ysley who likes to think his way out of his opponents clutches or Paula who’s not as physically strong either.

Meanwhile Commander Piscalat of the Zoble army gives a rallying speech to her soldiers. Telling them to do what they want as the land will belong to Zoble. Whilst a bomb goes to blow her up, she catches it and is unharmed. Whilst the soldiers do take note of her superhuman strength they don’t question her as she looks human enough. Captain Nickel tells her of a “meeting” and soon enough her and others are in a room full of human looking demons.

Whilst the demons kill the spy that the Prime Minister of Zoble called on. They talk with Oobami to study the forms of the Idaten. Whilst also confirming that they consider him the demon lord who gave them human forms and intelligence.

Review

Whilst this is obviously a filler episode it doesn’t stop it being interesting. In fact. It adds so much more to episode 1. Having the Demons controlled by someone who has them convinced he’s the Demon Lord is interesting as it adds a new layer to them. They’re no longer mindless and no longer attack without bias. They’re essentially dangerous dogs on a lead but don’t know it.

I’m not convinced Oobami is the Demon Lord. It just doesn’t make sense, I think he’s something else but it’s impossible to know what yet. Ysley explaining how Idaten are “born” and then using that logic to essentially say there’s no need for them as it’s only humans fighting humans gives me a good idea that he is considering that demons are around in different forms. He’s just not sure yet.

Great episode, enough info to keep you interested and fun enough to stop from any boredom kicking in.
