Deadly Class
Season 1
Episode 1: “Pilot”
I was a Deadly Class virgin when I watched this first episode. Meaning I had no idea what the show was about except that it was from a comic book written by Rick Remender, Wesley Craig, and Lee Loughridge.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name comes an unlikely coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of unsanitized 1980s counterculture. A homeless, disillusioned teen named Marcus is recruited into Kings Dominion, a secret academy for the Deadly Arts, where he struggles to find his place among a community of the deadliest characters in the world — literally fighting every day for survival. It is in this struggle he tries to find purpose and family in an unlikely group of outcast misfits who plan to use their skills to really change the world for the better… by breaking every rule there is
This show was a breath of fresh 1980’s air. SyFy doesn’t hold back at all with the violence or vulgar language. All of the characters have such amazing, crazy story lines that are all so different and yet they all seem to fit together perfectly.
My Thoughts
As I have never read the comic book, but from the images I have seen, I would like to say the casting team did an excellent job. The cast is full of beautiful young actors with some very familiar faces. Such as Lana Condor who recently starred in the Netflix hit movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
Along with a legend in the acting world, Benedict Wong, whom we all know from Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
I believe after this episode my favorite is the main character Marcus played by Benjamin Wadsworth. His character is plain and awkward looking compared to the others, but that is what makes him the most dangerous of all. He is crazy scary in his mind. Even though he is smiling to your face, he is already plotting your death in his head.
Speaking of death Marcus has been plotting on whom he wants to kill for sometime now. He tells everyone that he plans to kill the President of the United States. Which gets a lot of laughs, but he is serious. Marcus believes all the bad that has happened in his life is because of things that Ronald Reagan did.
There are a few other fun color characters that I can’t wait to see more of. Like Maria, who is down right crazy insane and she could do some damage with her knifed fans. You must see that scene. It is epic!
Syfy has another winner on their hands. I will tuning in every week to see what happens next with this Deadly Class. Be sure to join me on twitter for live tweeting of this show.
