Superman and Lois “Waiting for Superman” Roundtable

Season 2 has come to an end and this finale episode was different for sure. So let’s get into our Superman and Lois “Waiting for Superman” Roundtable with PurpleBrina and Clare.

Superman and Lois “Waiting for Superman” Synopsis

Chrissy Beppo (Sofia Hasmik), with the authorization of the Department of Defense, has a message for the people of Smallville– not only is the merging of planets real, it is happening.

The show starts off with Chrissy speaking to the people of Smallville. Did you find it odd she seemed to only be addressing the town and not the world?

PB: This whole episode seemed a little off to me. Like its two worlds merging but we are only focused on Smallville. So yes I did think it was a little odd.

C: Yeah, that felt like a message that really should have been broadcast to the entire world, although it was online so I guess in a way it was; we just focused on Smallville because that’s where all our characters are.

With the merging worlds, there were glitches that were causing people and things to flip back and forth between the two worlds, separating families and friends including the Kents. Bizarro Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) was in Smallville but she never said anything. What do you think was the reason behind that?

C: Bizarro Lois kinda broke my heart to be honest. She lost everything in her world and then to flip to our world and see a united Kent family must have been so hard.

PB:  I think she was just missing her family. This whole thing with Ally (Rya Kihlstedt) caused her to lose them. So maybe watching them made her miss them. She just looked so sad.

Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) figures out that he has to be flown into the sun in order to get his powers back. He enlists his brother Tal Rho (Adam Rayner) to fly him there. Were you surprised that was what he needed to get his powers back?

PB: No, Superman is always recharged and renewed after time in the sun. I was just shocked it took him this long to figure this out. Also, I love Tal. The moments between him and Clark are the best.

C: The only thing I was surprised by was that he didn’t have this idea sooner. Superman gets his powers from our yellow sun, it took time for his powers to come in as a child as I guess it needed time to build up in his system. Of course yeeting his ass into the sun would supercharge him!

The fight with Ally kinda sucked. Thoughts on this not so epic fight?

C: It was a little anti-climactic, but possibly cos I was still getting over the sheer beauty of THAT shot when Superman landed back on Earth. Holy cow that was blockbuster movie-standard awesomeness.

PB: Honestly, I thought it was kinda lame. We had an entire season of build up and it was over in seasons. And why didn’t he kill her?!? Like she was bad. She was killing people left and right. But no, let’s put her in a special prison in a cell with her other self. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of Ally.

Blah, blah, Superman saved the world. Let’s talk about the real issues. The lack of a crossover with The Flash or the fact that CW said this Superman isn’t part of the Arrowverse. Thoughts on these?

PB: I have been wondering since this show started why no crossover episodes. It might have helped both of these shows. And CW is known for plot holes but this one is a major fail. Like why even have Superman on Supergirl or have him be a part of the crossover episodes only to say he is a different Superman from a different world.  It makes NO DAMN sense.

C: I’ve been wondering the same about crossovers, especially once John Henry (Wole Parks) showed up from another Earth AFTER Crisis happened. I read something after this episode that suggested that Crisis didn’t actually destroy all the other Earths, it just kinda closed them off from the Arrowverse “Earth Prime” and that this Superman exists on one of the other Earths. That makes more sense, because there are just so many changes from the Superman/Clark that Tyler played in the other Arrowverse shows (not least of which is that this version has twin sons, not just one).

Ok back to the show, the ending. What did you think?

C: Okay, so the Fortress of Solitude being in the Arctic made sense; ice palace in an icy tundra would be hard to spot. Ice palace in the sea where it’s easily accessible by boat so his entire family can visit on a whim (from utterly landlocked Kansas)… WTF?! Not to mention if people spot it and set up surveillance it’s gonna be REALLY easy to find out Clark’s secret. Do they not think this stuff through AT ALL?!?!

Also WHEN WILL JONATHAN (Jordan Elsass) GET HIS POWERS?!?!

PB: I was really hoping Jonathan would get his powers. I honestly thought he would have to rescue someone and boom power up but nope. Just the family on a boat building a giant iceberg,

Superman and Lois “Waiting for Superman” Episode Rating:

C: 7.5 (it gets a whole extra point for THAT shot of Superman!

PB: 6.5
