Lycoris Recoil “Easy Does It” Review

Lycoris Recoil “Easy Does It” is the first episode of the original anime by A-1 Pictures. This episode explores the reason why Takina is transferred whilst also having her get used to life at Café LycoReco, using that as a catalyst to help tell the audience what on Earth is going on. Takina and her new partner in, well kinda crime, Chisato go through the motions of what an every day life is like as a LycoReco employee. Takina is obviously annoyed as she’s a Lycoris and expects to be taking out drug dealers and terrorists instead she’s helping sell coffee and visiting kids at a school. Things take a turn for the worse though when one of their clients turns out to be someone who accidentally photographed an illegal arms deal going on. As Takina realises they’re being followed, she uses the client as bait and allows her to be caught so she can shoot the hell out of the kidnappers until they tell her where the illegal guns were sold. Chisato shows up in the nick of time and shows that she’s earned being called one of the best ever Lycoris by taking all the kidnappers out on her own (with non lethals) and pointing out a drone that was watching them that Takina didn’t even notice. In between these scenes there’s scenes of a hacker who hacked the DA chatting with an incredibly suspicious man, who seems to know LycoReco’s owner Mika well.

Cute Girls Taking Out Terrorists

This was honestly a great start to this show and has solidified it as one I’m going to keep an eye on. The cutesy innocent feel of the whole thing with a backdrop of corruption, violence and lies has got me hooked. It works perfectly! Whilst the themes themselves work perfectly something about the pacing was suspiciously off, it felt well paced in some areas and dragged a little in others. For now I’m putting that down to the fact that it’s the first episode and it needed to find a perfect balance to establish the setting. I’ve also noticed upon second viewing, it’s nowhere near as noticeable.
