Superman and Lois – The Ties That Bind Roundtable

So much to unwrap in this episode from Clark’s visions to what or who is causing the earthquakes to trouble in teen love. So ladies let’s get right to it in our Superman and Lois – The Ties That Bind Roundtable.

The Ties That Bind Synopsis

Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) opens up to Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) about his ongoing struggle with visions and admits that there is only one person who might be able to help; tensions begin to rise between Lois and Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik); Sarah (Inde Navarrette) breaks plans with Jordan (Alex Garfin) to spend time with Natalie (Tayler Buck).

Breakfast is a bust because Clark has another vision along with another earthquake. Do you think Lois is trying too hard to make Nat feel at home?

R: I’m truly not surprised seeing her behavior and the way she acts around Nat. Of course she wants to show her super best self whenever Nat is around. One day she’ll realize that it doesn’t take that much to make her feel at home. Like John already said, she should just start being herself. Nobody’s perfect and showing her weaknesses sometimes isn’t a bad thing at all.

C: I don’t think she’s trying too hard, but I do think maybe asking John Henry (Wole Parks) what she likes beforehand might have been a good idea… and would have avoided the “I’m vegan” awkwardness. Honestly people… COMMUNICATE!

PB: I totally think she is going overboard with all she is doing. I think she is better off just being her normal else that way Nat doesn’t get used to this over the top Lois.

Chrissy brought up a good question, do you think Lois uses her reporter status to bend rules for family or to get what she wants for personal needs?

C: I think everyone does it a little, whatever their job, you always wanna help out family. Lois obviously has to take things a lot further than most, especially when it comes to family, as she has some pretty enormous secrets to protect. I don’t think it’s specifically because she’s a reporter though, she’s more likely to use that status to get herself into trouble that Superman has to help her out of.

PB: I honestly think everyone does this no matter their job. Like someone in retail giving their friend or family member a discount. I think we all do it, so maybe Lois bends the rules but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

R: Couldn’t agree more with PB. You are lying if you say that you didn’t bend the rules at least once for something important to you. Maybe it’s a bit over the top at some point but no need to call her out or whatever. Most of the time she’s just doing her job as a journalist and nothing more.

Sarah and Natalie? Sarah and Jordan? What is Sarah doing? What did you think about Sarah’s confession?

PB: I knew Sarah had cheated or something because she was acting so differently with Jordan. Also she seems to be really friendly with Natalie. Like too friendly. I feel awful for Jordan, he has been through so much already and now this too. He is crushed. I honestly hope The CW doesn’t turn this into another show where they focus only on her sexuality and always throw it in our faces every episode.

R: Definitely saw this one coming. No surprise at all. Even though I thought she ended up doing more than a kiss. However, she still cheated on her boyfriend and that’s a no go. Doesn’t matter if she did it with another boy or girl. Now they’ll probably focus a bit more on Sarah figuring out her sexuality and what she truly wants. As long as this won’t be the main topic of the show I’m fine with it. Still an important matter in today’s world.

C: I mean, we all knew she’d done something with someone else right? Wasn’t at all shocked by that. I’m not a fan of cheating storylines at all, especially when focused on a (possibly) Bisexual character and they are portrayed as willing to cheat readily. Even if she is figuring out her sexuality, it’s a pretty crappy way to go about it. Just, have her get really close to someone at camp, be unsure, break things off with Jordan and explore her options that way. It’s not that hard.

The return of Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner), he was helpful but not so helpful ways, did you believe he has lost his powers?

C: I was pretty sure he was bullshitting and I was right. I’m hoping that means he’s going to keep causing trouble this season cos Tal is FUN! Also… the incarceration beard suits him!

R: Thank god he’s back. Am I allowed to say that I missed him? If you truly believed him having no powers then I don’t know what’s wrong with you. We are still talking about Tal-Rho here. He’s trying to gain advantages for himself whenever he can. Was happy seeing Jordan showing his powers and really slightly whooping his ass. It wasn’t that helpful but at least we saw that Jordan is getting stronger now. Anyways, hopefully this wasn’t the last time that we saw one of my favorites from Season 1 aka Tal-Rho. Let’s see about that.

PB: He is the bad guy, of course he lied about having lost his powers. He wants to be free. He wants to rule at any cost. I am shocked Clark didn’t kill him. Luckily for them both their mom was there to stop them.

Speaking of their Mom, thoughts on Super mom?

R: Don’t really have an opinion about that to be honest. At least Clark seemed to be happy seeing his mother again. That’s all I care about. And she was helpful when it came to the visions topic. Good job, right?

PB: I love that both Fortresses give them access to different family members. I think it was great that she was able to make them stop fighting and help Clark with his visions.

C: I thought it was really cool to see her, and to see Clark’s reaction. Obviously we saw how he was with her consciousness in Lana last season, but this is different, and was quite sweet.
