Superman and Lois – Heritage RoundTable Review

We are back at it again with another roundtable review for episode 2 of Superman and Lois – Heritage. Let’s just dive right into it.

Superman and Lois – Heritage Synopsis

While adjusting to their new lives in Smallville, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) make an important decision concerning one of their sons; tensions begin to rise between Lois and Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner); Lana Lang Cushing (Emmanuelle Chriqui) invites the Kent family over for a barbecue

Hello again ladies, what did you think of Episode 2 overall?

PB: To be honest, I was a little let down. It felt like a filler episode. Yes, there were some good parts but the pilot episode packed such a punch I was expecting more.

C: I agree, it certainly lacked the oomph of the pilot. I didn’t hate it, but I did find myself playing on my phone for a bit part way through the episode. I’m really hoping that they don’t “pull a CW” on this one and make it all teen drama. The show is called Superman and Lois, not “two whiny teenagers”.

Superman and Lois - Heritage

R: I kind of agree with both of you. It wasn’t as thrilling as the pilot, but it wasn’t a bad episode either. Something was missing, but I enjoyed watching it anyway. About the whiny teenagers thing: I hope they’ll get even closer now and this whole superpower thing won’t turn them against each other. They gotta keep this family spirit and defeat Captain Luthor (Wolé Parks).

Lois’s fangirl (Chrissy Beppo, played by Sofia Hasmik), is she good or bad?

PB: I like her but I have a feeling like she is Chloe from Smallville  and she is going to snoop until she figures out Lois’s big secret. But then again she did give Lois a job, so maybe she is good.

C: Yeah, I actually half though her “editor” was going to be Chloe until they revealed it was her all  along. I think you’re right PB, I think she’s going to take after Chloe/Lois and find out at least part of what is going on at the Kent Farm.

R: It’s all an act with her, that’s what I think. Her acting like this little fangirl, who’s looking up to Lois. There is definitely something shady about it. We just have to wait and see. I doubt she’s a good person. She just wants to gain Lois trust (at least trying to).

The Bad Guy or Guys

PB:  So I get that this dude wants Clark to believe he is from another planet but he seems to be either upset with Superman or really jealous of him.  Or maybe he is working with Lois’s father (Dylan Walsh). Because honestly I have been wondering about Lois’s dad. Cause I can’t figure out if he is a fan of Superman or just tolerating him because of Lois and the boys, What do you guys think?

R: Like Clare said, he’s definitely from another planet and sort of wants revenge for what happened in his past. Lois’ dad is included in here as well. You can see it from miles away that he’s not a fan of Superman. The fact that he’s married to his daughter and they’re having a family together kind of makes him accept it. No more and no less.

C:  I do think he’s from another Earth like I said last week, since we saw black suit Clark in his flashback/memory. It seems like on whatever Earth he was from Supes was bad and the US army, including Sam Lane and Captain Luther, were trying to stop him. Hence why he  knows about Kryptonite etc.
As for General Lane… I think he is just tolerating Clark because of Lois and the boys. Also it’s handy to have an almost un-killable Superhero on call at the push of a button. And it’s clear Clark doesn’t entirely trust him either (with good reason since he’s been stock-piling Kryptonite) since he didn’t tell him about Jordan (Alex Garfin) having abilities.
And let’s not forget Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) who is definitely up to no good. Smarmy git!

Superman/Clark Kent

PB: We have already established that most of us ladies here at FANdemonium love Tyler as Superman. So I wanted to discuss two things I noticed in this episode. First since when does Superman drink? I am ok with it, but could you imagine if he got drunk. That could either be really bad or really freaking good…….for Lois haha.

C: Mmmm, Tyler. I imagine alcohol doesn’t affect him the same way it would a human, given his Kryptonian metabolism. I think he’d probably need to drink an entire barrel, or for someone to spike it with Kryptonite, for it to have an effect…. Oooh now there’s a fun idea for a future episode. Do we have Red K in the Arrowverse?

R: I guess he needs a loooooot of alcohol to actually get drunk. Made me think of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. It takes more alcohol for vampires to get drunk than a human. It’s probably the same for Superman. So, what about some shots in between … or maybe some more for a bit of fun. Let’s see how this goes. A drunk Superman, now I’ve got visions in my mind.

PB: His glasses when he is Clark. I am not sure I like the no frame.  I like that Superman as Clark has always worn thick black frames. But it’s sexy Tyler so I am here for his no show frames and 5o’clock shadow.

C: I am digging the glasses actually, I found myself staring at them during this episode. The 5o’clock shadow annoys me a bit more cos in my head Clark/Supes is always clean-shaven. Wait…  does he somehow shave himself when he changes into the Supersuit? Cos if not that’s gonna be a bit of a giveaway!

R: I am actually all here for his glasses. 100%!!! No more words needed. Gimme some more content. Also his red plaid fleece lined jacket. That’s a big YES for me as well.

The Fortress of Solitude

C:  We got a brief glimpse of the entrance to the Fortress in the pilot when Clark proposed to Lois, but we got to see it properly in this episode when Clark took Jordan to be tested. Am I alone in thinking that’s the least Fortress-like Fortress of Solitude we’ve ever seen in a live action version Superman? It was just a gloomy tunnel in the ice.

PB: I am glad you brought this up. I forgot about it. Honestly I thought they would use the same one from Supergirl but it seems they went for a dark look.

R: Can’t say much about that because I haven’t seen a lot of superhero shows for now. I can’t compare it to anything else. Maybe there are better ways to visualize it. I’ll take your word for it.
