Superman and Lois “30 Days and 30 Nights” Roundtable

PurpleBrina and Clare are back after a lengthy hiatus to discuss Superman and Lois “30 Days and 30 Nights” which aired on the CW at the end of March. Let’s dive in as this was a packed episode.

Superman and Lois “30 Days and 30 Nights” Synopsis

Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) thanks Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) for sticking up for Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) when he is taunted for getting football season canceled; Jordan (Alex Garfin)’s unexpected departure on the mayoral election day leaves Sarah (Inde Navarrette) rattled.

Superman And Lois - 30 Days and 30 Nights

This episode opens to Ally (Guest star Rya Kihlstedt) getting broken out of the DOD and she makes it to the other bizarro world. Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) hears this and flies in to save the day. But he is too late and Ally has already gone through the portal. Making a split second decision to go after her, Superman flies into the portal.

How did you feel about Superman flying into the portal?

PB: I didn’t want him to go cause he has no way of getting back or knowing what he is flying into.

C: Hard same, especially without any kind of suit. I know he is Superman, but even Bizarro wore a suit to come from the Inverse world to ours.

A month has passed since Superman went into the portal. The world is definitely noticing his absence. Were you shocked that the DOD didn’t step in to help out?

C: A little yeah, although without Superman or their clearly unfit for duty Superteens I’m not sure what the DoD could actually do. Plus their last commander went nutso and went through the portal, so there’s clearly gonna be some fallout they are dealing with. John Henry and Jordan were clearly more useful.

PB: I was a little shocked they didn’t but maybe they are still dealing with the fall out of their last leader going rogue and joining Ally.

John Henry steps up to help now that he has his suit up and working. But we saw a surprise helper, Jordan. What did you think of Jordan’s first superhero moment?

PB: I’ve been waiting for him to step up and be superboy. It’s long overdue. He is totally ready to help out. And his first save was his girlfriend’s dad. Can’t get better than that.

C:  I am not thrilled, cos it should be Jonathan, not Jordan. That said, his two action sequences this episode were pretty cool.

We might have been excited to see him step up, his mom was not happy about it. She was mad at both her father and Jordan. Do you think Lois is right to be upset?

C: I think she’s right to be upset that they kept his training from her, but at the end of the day she knows her son has powers and she can’t possibly expect the son of Superman and Lois Lane to sit by and do nothing when he has the ability to help.

PB: I think she might have taken it better had Clark been around or even Clark being the one to train him. Lois has been a ball of emotion ever since this stuff with her sister has resurfaced. And with Clark being gone and two teenage boys, she has her hands full.

Jonathan finally told the truth to his mom and grandfather about who was really selling the drugs. How do you think this is going to change their relationship going forward?

PB: I wouldn’t be surprised if Lois doesn’t ask him to break up with her or to not see her anymore. I know his girlfriend was selling to help out her family but look what it has done to Jonathan’s life. She is bad news.

C: Given the fact he seemed to have a power induced headache I think their relationship is going to be under even more stress very soon. Which I’m kinda okay with cos I’m not sure they are good for each other.

John Henry (Wole Parks) and Natalie (Tayler Buck) share a moment remembering the death of their Lois. Do you think Natalie will ever be able to look at Lois and not see her mom?

Superman And Lois - 30 Days and 30 Nights

C: I sure as hell couldn’t do it, but I think that maybe, if she’s willing, there are enough differences between her mom and this Lois that she could come to see them as two different people.

PB: I don’t think I could do it. I think if I was Natalie I would try to become friends with Lois and soak up her warmth and love since I don’t have my mom anymore. Or I would leave, so it wouldn’t hurt too much to be around her all the time.

Sarah is beyond hurt dealing with her parents’ split. She needed Jordan but he has been too busy to be there for her. She decides to break up with him because she is confusing her parents’ emotional split with her own feelings. Do you think Jordan will just crack and tell her the truth so he can get her back in his life?

PB: I am shocked he hasn’t done it yet. He is holding so strong about not telling her, I am proud of him but I think he might crave soon. The fact that his dad has been gone a month and all the drama surrounding his brother; Sarah was his one safe place. He needs her.

C: I hope he doesn’t, cos poor Sarah has got more than enough going on in her family life to have to keep such a massive secret for someone else. And I don’t think she’s confusing what her parents are going through with her own situation, she listened to what her dad said about not putting Lois first in his life and realised that Jonathan wasn’t doing that with her either, so she made the choice to end it.

The episode ends with Jonathan having an alien style headache while walking his girlfriend home. Cut to the Kent’s front porch and we see Jonathan looking really different.  Lois and Jordan realize this Jonathan is from Bizarro world. He comes with a message “He was too late”

What do you think this meant?

C: I think it means that he was too late to stop Ally, and maybe Anderson merging with their Bizarro selves, but I am rather confused as to how this Bizarro Jonathan has gotten to our world (although I am digging the leather).

PB: I hope he just means that the two Allys merged, not that anything happened to Superman. I really hope nothing happened cause I am gonna be pissed if something hurt Superman.

Superman and Lois “30 Days and 30 Nights” Overall Rating:

PB: 7.5 (for lack of Clark/Superman)

C: 8
