Summertime Render “Shadow” Review

Summertime Render “Shadow” is the second episode of the Summertime Render anime. Following the shocking episode 1. Shinpei goes back in time at the star of this one, only to die at the hands of Mio’s Shadow before she can finish her off. It’s confirmed that the police officer in the cafe was a Shadow and the original was killed by Mio’s Shadow and Shinpei is sent back again. Only this time he tells Mio all about the Shadows and shows her footage he got of her one.

Mio’s Shadow

Naturally with this only being episode 2, not a lot is known about the Shadows. I suspect, deliberately so, something I did notice though was there was a slight change that Shin didn’t react to when Mio fell in the sea his first time going back. Before, she went on a tirade about wanting a swim and doesn’t seem to bother even trying to use the brakes, this time she points out that the brakes didn’t work which is why she couldn’t stop. Why didn’t episode 1 Mio even try to stop? Was that even her? The fact that she didn’t try and just pushed it aside with a joke makes me wonder. Could be a writing mistake but I don’t think so, Mio is central to the story and so is her Shadow, there’s no way they’d make such an obvious mistake.

Mio’s Shadow also seems to work differently to others. It wanders around and follows routine even if it would get caught doing so but it kills in order to cover up any witnesses. Which doesn’t make sense. If it’s gonna be blatant with it’s actions then why bother killing Shinpei to stop him talking. Plus Mio’s Shadow strongly hints that something’s up with Shinpei, could all of the events be happening because of him? Is he the true Shadow or something?

Only one way to find out! Can’t wait for next weeks episode. I need answers so bad!
