Charles “Chic” Eglee Named Executive Producer and Showrunner for the New Season

March 15, 2019 – Santa Monica, CA – Starz, announced today it has ordered a third season of the almighty original series American Gods, produced by Fremantle and has named Charles “Chic” Eglee as the new showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming season.  This news comes on the heels of the series’ highly-anticipated sophomore season debut on STARZ on March 10, which returned as the second highest rated premium scripted season premiere and second highest rated STARZ Original in 2019.**

“Audiences continue to worship at the altar of ‘American Gods’ and we are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come,” said Carmi Zlotnik, president of programming for Starz.  “With Chic at the helm, the invaluable insight and contributions of Neil Gaiman and the undeniable talent of this dedicated cast and crew, we know that the show will continue to deliver on the vision and promise laid out in the novel.”

Charles “Chic” Eglee, known for his work on Hemlock Grove, The Walking Dead, Dexter and The Shield will take the reins as showrunner for the upcoming third season of American Gods.

“I’m thrilled ‘American Gods’ has been renewed for a third season, and even more thrilled that I’m getting to work on it with Chic Eglee,” said executive Producer Neil Gaiman. “Chic is the best partner-in-crime. We’ve been working for weeks now on the shape of the season and I’m delighted that he gets to carry the American Gods torch on to glory. Thank you to Fremantle, Starz and Amazon for having faith in the series, to Bryan, Michael and Jesse for bringing it this far, to all the cast and crew, and most of all to the viewers. It’s their love of the characters that took us to this point, and will take us on to the next chapter.”

“It’s been a privilege for all of us at Fremantle to work with Neil and this extraordinary cast & crew on such a timely and wonderfully entertaining series and we welcome Chic to the ‘American Gods’ family for season 3. The artists in front and behind the camera are deeply committed to continuing this extraordinary story, which powerfully speaks to the unprecedented times in which we all live,” said Dante Di Loreto, President of Scripted Entertainment for Fremantle.

An all new episode of American Gods airs this Sunday, March 17 at 8PM ET/PT on STARZ.

About American Gods

Starring Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, “American Gods” is a one-hour drama adapted from Neil Gaiman’s best-selling novel about a war brewing between Old Gods and New Gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

We were forged in God’s image, but the Gods are also made in ours — and in Season Two the battle moves inexorably toward crisis point as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World (Crispin Glover) plots revenge for the attack against him in Season One, Shadow throws in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura (Emily Browning) and Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) in tow. A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos, sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois: forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods — a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice.

American Gods also stars Orlando Jones (“Madiba,” “Sleepy Hollow”) as Mr. Nancy, Yetide Badaki (“Aquarius,” “This Is Us”) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (“Deadly Waters”) as Tech Boy, Mousa Kraish (Superbad, “Transparent”) as The Jinn, Omid Abtahi (“Damien,” “Legends”) as Salim and Demore Barnes (“12 Monkeys,” “Waco”) as Mr. Ibis. Guest stars include Cloris Leachman (“Malcom in The Middle,” “Raising Hope”) as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare (Fargo, “Prison Break”) as Czernobog, and joining Season Two are Sakina Jaffrey (“House of Cards,” “The Blacklist”) as Mama-Ji’, Dean Winters (“Divorce,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Mr. Town, Devery Jacobs (“Cardinal,” “The Order”) as Sam Black Crow and Kahyun Kim (“Adam Ruins Everything” and “Shameless”) as New Media.

“American Gods” is produced by Fremantle. Neil Gaiman, Craig Cegielski, Scott Hornbacher, Ian McShane, Stefanie Berk, Christopher J. Byrne and Padraic McKinley serve as executive producers. Executive Vice President of Original Programming Marta Fernandez is the Starz executives in charge of “American Gods.”

Starz retains all network pay TV and SVOD rights, as well as certain DVD distribution rights in the US and Canada, to the project. Fremantle International is distributing the series in all other media worldwide.

Written by Neil Gaiman in 2001, American Gods has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel.
