Spy X Family “The Friendship Scheme” Review

Spy X Family “The Friendship Scheme” is the sixth episode of the Spy X Family anime. Following Anya’s acceptance into Eden College in episode 5. The Forgers get ready for school. Anya gets her flashy new uniform, Loid is called into HQ to explain Plan B of Operation Strix, and Yor shows that she’s the world’s best mother. Plan B of the operation hinges on Anya becoming an elite scholar along with the target’s son, however Loid has no faith in her so he relies on Anya making friends with children who’ve got good connections in order to eventually get to Damien, the youngest son. Things don’t go smoothly though as Anya gets bullied by Damien and his lackeys immediately until she snaps and finally punches him full force the way Yor trains her to do earlier in the episode. Yor protected Anya from a bunch of thugs who thought she was a maid and were going to demand a ransom, naturally Yor shows them just what she’ll do to them if they hurt Anya by destroying a pumpkin with her hand so Anya asks to be trained.

Anya, Her Mother’s Daughter

What a great episode, even though it served really just to get from point A (Anya preparing for school) to point B (Anya being in school and showing what kind of child she’ll be.) The episode managed to handle a lot more than that without it feeling forced. Yor’s insecurity about not being Anya’s real mum and trying to be a good mother by teaching her the only thing she knows was beautifully done, without even realising it Yor is already 100 times the mother any of the posh kids could have cos she loves her daughter no matter what. Yor seems to think that’s also the case with Loid but he’s just nervous about the mission, though I’m sure deep down if anything did happen to Anya he’d be one of the first to throw fists.

This episode put together for the first time, clear as day the uniqueness of the Forger family. Loid freaking out because he’s got no hope for the mission, Yor thinking it’s cute Loid is so worried about his daughter and Anya reacting to his thoughts out loud, not remembering to keep her secret a secret (thankfully no-one noticed that.) It’s actually hilarious but adorable at the same time because it’s clear there’s a very common thread of love and respect that binds all of them together even if they’re in this for completely different reasons.

Also, I need a gif of that Anya punch, right now, it was brutal and I loved it.
