Soundtrack Sunday – Hairspray

Good Morning Baltimore – are you ready to meet the Nicest Kids in Town?

Yeah, since NBC aired their Hairspray LIVE event this week we figured what better than to feature some of our favourite songs from that musical this Soundtrack Sunday. I love the story of Hairspray, it still works even today with its tale of outsiders following their dreams. Most of the videos will be from the 2007 movie version starring James Marsden, Brittany Snow, Nikki Blonski, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer and John Travolta. There might be a couple of clips from the NBC Live version too 😉

Good Morning Baltimore

As far as opening tracks go this is an absolute belter. It introduces Tracy Turnblad and the world she lives in perfectly (and it’s catchy as hell)

Nicest Kids in Town

As much as I LOVE James Marsden as Corny in the movie, Derek Hough sure has the moves in the NBC Live version!

Miss Baltimore Crabs

(Still don’t know who I love more in the role of Velma Von Tussle, both Michelle Pfeiffer AND Kristin Chenoweth were both fabulous)

Ladies’ Choice

Because who can argue with Zac Efron’s snake hips?!

Welcome To The Sixties

Such a fun song, and I loved John Travolta as Mrs Turnblad. Also found the little background bits in this hilarious, like the kids in the car bouncinng around while the seatbelts trail on the floor outside.

You Can’t Stop The Beat

This is probably the biggest number, and therefore the longest track I’ve picked today. Totally 100% worth sticking it out though just to see John Travolta shaking his groove thang!!
