‘X-Men: Apocalypse’: James Marsden Endorses Luke Bracey as Young Cyclops

X-Men: Days of Future Past managed to please critics and fans alike(Can you say rarity?), becoming the highest-grossing film in the series to date worldwide. Bringing back director Bryan Singer and uniting the casts of both the original trilogy and X-Men: First Class proved to be a winning combination that not only negated the franchise’s most troubled installments but opened up a world of possibilities for Fox’s X-Men universe.

With Singer back in the director’s chair and the cataclysmic conclusion to the First Class trilogy in play, X-Men: Apocalypse faces the unenviable task of bringing the current storyline centered on the younger versions of Professor X, Magneto and Mystique to a close and introducing new mutants into the franchise to carry it forward. First though, the film has to recast some of its returning characters.

Original Cyclops actor James Marsden told Yahoo! Movies that Luke Bracey, who plays a younger version of Marsden’s character in upcoming romantic drama The Best of Me, would be a good choice to pick up his rose-colored visor. Here’s what he had to say:

“Yeah, that’d be great [if Luke Bracey took over as Cyclops]. Then he could just eventually take over being me. Then I would never get another role as long as I live!”

article-2567969-1BD570B400000578-210_306x423All kidding aside, 25-year-old Bracey could conceivably pull off an adolescent Scott Summers. The actor is already slated to take on the Keanu Reeves role of Johnny Utah in the Point Break remake(yeah we aren’t sure how we feel about this either, but moving on), and an up-and-coming young star might be a wise choice for Fox’s casting department, especially given the fact the ambitious scope (and, likely, massive price tag) that X-Men: Apocalypse will demand. Of course, Tim Pocock already played a young Cyclops in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but since it looks like Fox is doing everything they can to distance the franchise from that film, don’t expect to see him return to the role.

In fact, with the way Days of Future Past ended, anything may be possible with the future of the X-Men franchise. There’s always a chance that Marsden could find himself suiting up again, something that it seems like he’s certainly open to.

“Who knows what’s happening [with X-Men]? It’s all just speculation at this point. If [recasting] does happen, it was because of a timeline issue. I know so little about that whole world. Most of the time, the actors are the last to know.”

Do you think Luke Bracey would be a good pick for young Cyclops, or would you prefer a different actor take over the role from Marsden? Let us know in the comments section.
