Shameless – “Go Home, Gentrifier!” Review

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Shameless is back for the 11th season – the last one – which started the night of December 6th on Showtime.

Shameless “Go Home, Gentrifier!” Synopsis

It’s Franny’s birthday, and with Tami and Sandy’s help, Debbie prepares to throw her the best princess party Franny never wanted. Ian is on the straight and narrow which forces Mickey to get a real job. Frank the weed connoisseur helps Kev and V with their struggling pot business. Lip’s home renovations run him into some trouble with his new neighbors. Carl’s first day on the force is not the vigilante fantasy he thought it would be. Liam profits from kids who find themselves in lunch debt due to a tyrannical lunch lady.

What happened on Shameless “Go Home, Gentrifier!”?

Let’s start with where the name of the episode comes from: Lip. As we mentioned in the previous review, Lip (Jeremy White) is renovating his house along with his girlfriend Tami (Kate Long Johnson). One day he goes home and he finds the windows broken, thinking it was some neighbourhood group of youngesters. At the end of the episode, we find out that the ones ruining his house are actually adult neighbours. Their house was too “good-looking” for the neighbourhood and if real estate agents saw that, they would start selling more houses and the price would have risen.

Debbie (Emma Kenney) tries to prepare the best birthday party for her daughter, but she appears more focused on what she’d like rather than what Franny likes. She’s all about princesses, while Franny is more about vampires and lightsaber.

Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mickey (Noel Fisher) are still arguing about Mickey getting a job. He actually tries to get one – at Ian’s workplace. He goes in with a fake CV and ends up sending all of them to hell.

Frank (William H. Macy) is working with Vi (Shanola Hampton) and Kevin (Steve Howey) on the weed business they opened, but as all the things in this episode, it doesn’t end well. In fact, Vi and Kevin try to leave him behind but we all know that he’s the best whatever-dealer in town and that’s how they end up alone.

Final Review

This episode didn’t have many key moments in it and I think that is exactly what it’s missing from these first episodes. Being the last season, I hoped they would have added more meaningful scenes in the real Gallagher style. Of course there were a lot of scenes I truly enjoyed and Mickey was involved in all of them. I couldn’t stop laughing during the interview and the moment he was alone on the couch. And the little moment with Franny? Who could have known he would have been the only one knowing what she really liked?

Don’t miss Shameless final season on Sundays at 9PM ET/PT on Showtime!
