What happens on Shameless – “Father Frank Full of Grace”?

We have reached they very last episode of the show, after 11 seasons, and we’re definitely feeling the sadness here.

In this episode, we see all the characters writing a dot on their stories. Some of them with new lives: Vi and Kev ready to move out and sell everything they owned here, Alibi included. Mickey and Ian moving to the West Side. Lip and Tami (maybe) ready to begin a new life after selling the Gallagher’s house.

But as always, the main focus of the episode was directed on Frank. Last time we saw him, he overdosed on the couch after leaving a letter for his family, an attempt of suicide failed by his own addiction to drugs which made him too strong to die.

During the episode we don’t see the family caring a lot about Frank. In fact, they decided to leave him die or live on the couch. Liam, as always, had been the only one worrying about him.

Before everyone’s departure to their new lives, Mickey prepared a secret wedding anniversary party for Ian. That’s where all the characters meet, drink, dance and sing one last time, while Frank is dying at the hospital.

The episode ends with the recital of Frank’s letter while he’s slowing fading away with a beer in his hand.

Final Review

Shameless was one of the first tv shows I’ve started watching. I have an a deep connection to this show and this is also the reason why I kept avoiding watching the series finale. Until I decided I had to. The episode wasn’t full of action or anything particularly Gallagher-style, but seeing all of them together being happy one last time was everything that I needed. I didn’t particularly enjoyed Frank flying away, but the parallel with him in the hospital and everyone else partying was truly emotional. After all, we’ve been watching Frank’s and the Gallagher’s misadventures for over 10 years and it’s always hard to say goodbye.
