Shameless – “Cancelled” Review

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Shameless is back for the 11th season – the last one – which started the night of December 6th on Showtime.

Shameless – “Cancelled” Synopsis

Frank and Liam compete in a renaming contest of the Dennis Hastert Middle School. Debbie has a day of zero responsibilities, while Ian and Mickey take on all the responsibility for Terry. Veronica is depressed about her mom moving so Kevin tries to cheer her up, all while planning a special surprise. Carl is put on vice squad, which is all fun and games, until it’s not. Lip has a close encounter with the law, which forces Lip and Tami to team up and sends Brad into a spiral.

What happened on Shameless “Cancelled”?

We’re sadly getting closer to the big finale and we’re really feeling it throughout these last episodes. This one was particularly special as it was directed by our very Shanola Hampton, Vi in the show.

Let’s start with Vi, who’s still suffering from her mother’s decision to move to a different city leaving her in Chicago. During the episode we’ll see Kev helping her going throught this by organising her a virtual wedding celebration.

Regarding Mickey, and Ian consequently, his relationship with his father is getting to a breaking point. Even though Terry tried to kill him several times, beaten him off and forced him to do everything he didn’t want to do, Mickey seems the only one to care about his weel-being after the accident. But the story doesn’t end well. In fact, the episodes closes with Terry’s death. How will Mickey react?

Going back to the Gallaghers, Frank is truly having the worst time. Basically lost in his dementia, which is getting more and more serious in every episode. Just remember that he called a woman with his ex-wife name and forgot he talked to Liam 30 seconds before.

Final Review

These last few episodes are opening a lot of doors that I’m not sure how they’re going to close. How is Mickey going to react to his father’s death? What will happen between him and the rest of his family? Is Frank gonna make it to the finale or his dementia will kill him first? Will the Gallaghers care about him at some point? So many questions, too little episodes.
