Synopsis

With Salem’s forces drawing closer, and the General’s orders for their arrest, our heroes are forced to fight on all fronts to save the city Ironwood has abandoned.

Well there is definitely a LOT to talk about with this one. Where on earth to start? I suppose with Team RWBY facing down the majority of AceOps (we’ll get to Clover later). What was your favourite moment during that fight?

C – I think my absolute favourite was when Yang and Blake finally took out Elm, that set piece was INSANE. Serious kudos to the animators on this volume, they’ve had some incredible action to work with. It seems like every chapter the fights have just gone up another notch.

S – There are a few moments during this fight that I think are amazing! Everything that Blake and Yang did… Everything!!!

And least favourite?

C – I’m really kinda over the fact that we’ve seen so much of Yang and Blake fighting together as partners but we have barely ever seen Ruby and Weiss fight together. Even in this epic battle Weiss basically stepped in at the very last second to help Ruby.

S – I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see Ruby take down Harriet, everyone else got to own who they were fighting but Ruby had an assist. Although I don’t know if you noticed but none of the AceOps even tried to detain team RWBY, I suspect they had kill orders none of them even took out their restraints. Only Marrow seemed to be holding back and trying to arrest them.

Going back to our predictions from last week, we both suspected Neo had some involvement in Oscar’s disappearance, so high fives all round for being bang on the money. Are you as worried for my little ice cream princess as I am? Facing down JNR and Oscar, who has the Relic back?

S – No I hope they kick her ass!! Loved Oscar for that punch to the face which broke her illusion.

C – I kinda hope she gets away because I really do want to see her show down with Ruby over Torchwick. There is a part of me that thinks maybe Neo could be redeemed but I don’t think we will see it sadly.

S – We may do, if Ruby can convince her that actually Torchwick’s death is Salem’s fault she may turn sides.

And now for the serious stuff. Qrow teaming up with, of all people, Tyrian AGAINST Clover. We have both agreed this seemed completely out of character.

C – Yep, for Qrow to team up with the psychopath who almost killed him? I’m sorry but I’m just not buying that at all. And I really have a hard time buying that Clover would let a new order to detain someone come above stopping the ESCAPED PSYCHOTIC MURDERER WHO HAS BEEN RAMPAGING ACROSS REMNANT. Sorry…

S – Firstly I would like to apologise for the rant I am about to unleash upon the world! Okay so.. Aboard the ship Clover informs Qrow that he and his nieces/teams are under arrest, the smart thing to do would have been to wait until they got to Atlas but no. This brings chaos which clearly Tyrian is thrilled about! He escapes and crashes the ship, Robyn is knocked out leaving the 3 to fight among themselves, Clover still hell bent on arresting Qrow. Even after tyrian breaks free completely and begins fighting both Huntsmen, now this is where I am going to get ranty!

NOT ONCE does Clover make an attempt to recapture Tyrian, unlike like a true Huntsman (Qrow clearly) he is solely focussed on arresting Qrow, none of his attacks are aimed at Tyrian and he even stops Qrow from attacking the psychotic murderer. So yes it is completely out of character for Qrow to ‘team up’ with Tyrian but Clover didn’t really give him any other choice. Qrow has fought this psychotic scorpion before and knows what he is capable of, it took 3 of them to detain him in Mantle! Was Clover’s plan to let Tyrian go? Cause there is no way he would have recaptured him AND arrested Qrow!

I really think Ironwood has taken the biscuit this time! The conversation between Qrow and Clover whilst Clover is dying was interesting, they needed a fall guy… would that be Qrow or Tyrian? I must have sat there staring at my screen for 10minutes after this episode, just like RT to get you comfortable just to tear you down and rip out your heart and maybe kick you in the balls for good measure.

C – Don’t hold back Soph! I totally agree though. I do think that the writers made a big misstep in this episode, and this particular plot thread. It just felt wrong from the moment Clover stood up and said he was going to arrest Qrow.

S – I was ranting at the screen at this point, shouting at Clover to stay out of Qrow’s way! It just doesn’t make sense to me, they are both trained Huntsmen, why on earth did Clover let his guard down around Tyrian?! Why was he so hell bent on following orders when people’s lives are at stake!! Ok I need to walk away from this now!

No I can’t! What a school boy error! His Aura was shot and he had his back to the murdering psychopath who took full advantage of the situation and killed him. Did he really see a good way out of that situation!?! I just can’t even…

Moving on now. Did you expect the fight to end the way it did?

C – Honestly no. I was kind of expecting SOMEONE to die this volume, but I certainly did not expect it to be Clover. I got attached to lucky boy pretty damn fast, mostly cos he made Qrow smile. But I really expected more from him. Like, his connection with Qrow to have made him realise that it’s not all about following orders and doing the right thing.

S – I knew someone was going to die! My hubby asked if I wanted to watch the new RWBY and I said no because someone is going to die…. I was quite surprised it was Clover though. So team RWBY have beaten the AceOps, what now? Even now after writing this and answering questions I still sat here in something of a daze, this episode has broken me, I need a blanket fort now.

Next week is the finale and if this is anything to go by, we are in for one hell of a finale. We’ve definitely got a Winter v Cinder fight on the cards. Winter doesn’t yet have the Winter Maiden powers though, how do you think it’s going to go down?

S – I’m hoping that between Winter and Penny they can kick Cinder’s ass, maybe Ruby will turn up to help! Penny got pretty mad when she saw Cinder again and not having seen Winter fight since she and Qrow had that little tiff in the Beacon Academy courtyard, I kind of get the feeling Winter is more bark then she is bite but I hope I am wrong about that. Even with Maiden powers Cinder has still been beaten, imagine Neo with Maiden powers!

C – Now THAT would be cool, Neo with Maiden powers… Okay, back on topic. I really hope that Penny can at least hold Cinder off long enough for Winter to get the Maiden powers so that the playing field is a little more level. I can see everyone kinda converging on the Maiden chamber, led by Weiss (who knows the way) and it will be a giant team ass kicking!

We saw Pietro and Maria rock up just after Team RWBY took down AceOps, do you think they will have a part to play in the finale?

S – Maybe they will help our heroes escape? I think they would help Ruby and the gang over whatever is floating round Ironwoods head. Even if they were to help with the Maiden situation, I’m betting Pietro had something to do with the technology that was being used, it looked like the same chamber pods that we saw at Beacon.

C – Ooh yeah, the pod did look the same as the one the Maiden at Beacon was in. Pietro being involved with the Maidens would be cool. I’m not sure what Maria can do in a big fight other than be a crotchety old lady and maybe knock someone out with her staff?

What do you think will happen to Robyn? Do you think she’s going to make it or are we going to be adding her to Tyrian’s body count?

C – I think she will live, but I can’t even begin to imagine what she is going to do. When she wakes up and sees Clover dead, seemingly at Qrow’s hands, I’m not sure if she will attack Qrow or just make a break for it. If she can regroup with the rest of the Happy Huntresses then I can see her going after Ironwood to stop him any way she can.

S – I think I agree with you, she didn’t really have much of a role in this episode as she spent most of it unconscious. She would have to rejoin her Happy Huntresses and band against Ironwood!
