There seems to be a toxin in all the magic that permeates Storybrooke. Like a cloud from a crop duster smothering the fields, magic rains the substance that Rumple does not seem able to walk away from: Power.
He kept his dagger even though he knows the risk. Rumple claimed to Hook that Belle was the only light in his life yet he is willing to gamble his relationship on a magic hat that makes the dagger irrelevant. The behavior screams addiction and a dragon that will be chasing the Dark One for many years to come.
It is heartbreaking to watch a character considered a villain walk away from a life that promises more than any deal Rumple could strike. Rumple displays tendencies of light and dark but they blend with shadow creating a unique anti-hero that struggles to see beyond the rage that may be driving his actions.
If he believes he can bring his son back, it will be at a price and odds are the price may be too steep even for him to pay. The dagger would most certainly be on the table and if that comes into play, Belle will discover the man she has given her heart to is nothing more than a liar.
