The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Review | The Rings of Power – Episode 1-3

After waiting what felt like a lifetime, it was finally time for us to see the extraordinary new series The Rings of Power on PrimeVideo. The hype was big and the first three episodes were not disappointing at all. Let’s summ up this first 3 episodes of the show.

It is Tolkien in it’s finest way – spectacular and nothing less. To review this show isn’t easy at all because it kinda is an event for all the Lord of the Rings fans out there. You may not ignore that this show is one of the most expensive ones ever made – $465m for eight episodes.

The Beginning

The Rings of Power

The first 10 minutes of the first episode were just beautiful. Showing a very young Galadriel sailing a paper ship in the “undying lands” of Valinor. This has just so much meaning I can’t even start to explain all of the background.

Next thing we see is Galadriel, commander of the northern armies, the Warrior of the Wastelands, still hunting Morgoth’s lieutenant, Sauron. Centuries after most elves and humans believe he has been defeated.

Seeing Galadriel as a power woman and bad ass fighter was amazing to say the least. I won’t say more on this point because you just have to see it for yourself to feel it.

The Harfoots

The Rings of Power

We also get to know the harfoots in the first episode, Tolkien’s predecessors to the hobbits, who are preparing for their seasonal migration. They enjoy life and live it to the fullest, but there are things coming there way, they weren’t expecting at all. I wont’t say much more, because it would ruin the whole experience for you guys!

In episode 3 our young harfoot Noir finds herself in trouble among the harfoot community for sheltering a mysterious stranger who fell from the sky (yes I still think it is “young” Gandalf but we don’t know it yet).

The Dwarfs

The Rings of Power

We also meet our beloved dwarfs on the first few episodes. Elrond is going to his “old friend” at Khazad-dum, Prince Durin IV. Their first welcome after long time doesn’t work out as Elrond expected. After some little fighting and shouting, Durin welcomes Elrond back into his home and we also meet Durin’s wife, Princess Disa. Let me tell you, that woman is amazing as hell.

The Elves

The Rings of Power

We first see the elves co-existing with the humans after many years of war. We also got a glimpse on what could be a romantic thing between the elf Arondir and a beautiful human. In the third episode Arondir is enslaved by the orcs, alongside Médhor and humans. Them trying to escape and fight the orcs is one hell of a spectacle. Action, action and more action!

This review is probably shorter than you guys expected, but there is just SO MUCH happening in those first episodes that you just can’t get it into words. I can only say this: The first three episodes where just brilliant. The HUGE new world of middle-earth, the new characters and the amazing soundtrack, just fits. It all comes together and isn’t disappointing me in any way. Let’s hope it stays that way! Stay tuned for The Rings of Power Review of Episode 4 next weekend.
