There Will Be Blood

Riverdale 02×15 : There Will Be Blood.  I don’t even know where to begin with this episode. There has been so many storylines that have come and gone this season.  As we get farther into the season, the drama keeps coming.

The Andrews:

As we have all seen, Fred (Luke Perry) and Archie (K.J. Apa) have always seemed to have a decent relationship with one another.  I know that all father/son relationships come with problems, but theirs seems to be relatively problem free.  That is until the end of this episode.  Throughout the whole episode, I could have sworn that Archie would have his dad’s back regardless of what Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) said or did. And when Hiram asked Fred to run for Mayor, Archie was the first person to come out against the idea.  I mean, he knows what Hiram is capable of.  And Fred is a smart enough man to realize that Hiram just wanted to have someone he could control in charge.  After finding out of some of the shenanigans that Hiram has been pulling, Archie was dead set on protecting Fred.  So what happened? At one point, Archie had Fred sit down with the mayor and Josie to go over why Fred shouldn’t do it.  At this point, he was still all in though.  After thinking though, Fred realized that it wasn’t the best decision for him.  He wasn’t going to be a puppet to the Lodges. Towards the end of the episode, Archie’s attitude of protecting Fred did a complete 180 and he sided with the Lodge’s when Fred decided against running.  And instead of backing his father, he stayed put at the Lodges table.  Is that a sign of things to come between them?

The Blossoms:

I love seeing Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) piss Penelope (Nathalie Boltt) off with Toni (Vanessa Morgan).  I don’t think I would have thought of this plot twist, but I’m waiting with bated breath for it to continue.

We see that Penelope just wants to get on with her whorish ways, but when they are told there has to be a will reading, for any heir, she starts growing concerned. Cheryl invites Toni to be her emotional support, which doesn’t sit over well with Penelope.

At the reading, it is made known that the estate is to be divided in half: 1/2 to anyone who can prove they are a Blossom decendent and the other 1/2 to Jason and Cheryl.  As Cheryl is making a speech, the door opens and in walks Claddius Blossom, who is the spitting image of Clifford.  He agrees with Cheryl that too much blood has been shed and it needs to stop. But what exactly is his agenda? Is he there for Nana? Cheryl? Penelope?

Later in the episode, Cheryl overhears Claddius and Penelope discussing needing to put the house in order, first with Nana then Cheryl.  I have a feeling Cheryl is going to hate her mother more than she already does now.

The Jones:

Tell-Tale Heart

Poor Jughead (Cole Sprouse) can’t seem to get headway when it comes to getting information on Hiram.  He has tried so many avenues, including trying to badger Veronica.  Well we all know Veronica (Camila Mendes) takes right after daddy, so I don’t think he’ll get anywhere with that.  So what does he do next?  After finding out through Archie that Hiram bought Pops Diner, he headed there for insider info.  Of course, nobody really wants to get on the Lodge’s bad side, so it’s a leave the situation alone answer from Pop’s.

We think that Jughead is at a dead end, that is until he receives a mysterious phone call.  Agreeing to meet the person at the bus station, Jughead finally may have a lead.  What confuses me is that he was with FP (Skeet Ulrich).  Why didn’t he ask FP to go with him, not knowing what he could be walking into?  After looking around, Jughead sees the one person that he wouldn’t think would have any information, the Lodge’s old butler.  And what did he find out?  Well Hiram used to make visits to Shankshaw Prison.  Good thing FP has an in there.  After the visit to see War-Baby, Jughead is ready to reveal all but Principal Weatherbee won’t allow the article to be published.

So what comes next for the Jones boys?  FP is willing to go on record that Hiram paid the Serpents to trash the drive-in, but who is going to believe Jughead when it seems like the Lodges have a hand in everyone’s pockets.

The Coopers:

Where to start with this screwed up family?  First we have Hal (Lochlyn Munro) asking Alice (Mädchen Amick) for a divorce, which I think doesn’t surprise anyone.  And then we have the reappearance of Polly and the twins.  Betty (Lili Reinhart) is still suspicious of Chic (Hart Denton), but who wouldn’t be, that kid is a creeper.

I think one of the best parts of this episode is the catfishing game that Betty and Kevin are trying to pull over Chic for information.  But Chic catches on when Kevin keeps looking towards someone else. So the big question is: What is Chic hiding?

With the return of Polly and the twins, Alice is giving her grandchildren more attention than the long lost brother.  He doesn’t seem too happy about that either.  From my point of view, it’s almost as though he has a slight Oedipus Complex with Alice; trying to get all of the other children out of the way so she can only focus on him.

Anyway, there’s more to the story, but it ends up being that all of the kids need to go to the reading of the Blossom will.  They are all related to Clifford and the will specifies that he wants all heirs there for the reading.  Seems like Hal failed to mention the reading when he asked for the divorce.  But he did offer her half of of the purchase price of the paper, which he sold out from under her to the Lodges. Oh Hal. Don’t you know Alice can see right through you and will make you pay in the long run.

The Lodges:

All Rights Reserved. What’s nice to say about the Lodge’s?  All three of them know how to manipulate and control situations.  I guess that’s why Hiram makes a decent mob boss. Or is it Hermione (Marisol Nichols) that controls the family?  And Veronica falls right in line with them.

After finding out that Jughead has been digging into information, Hiram is upset that Archie has been telling family secrets.  It wasn’t hard to figure out where the information is coming from since there are only a few people that know, and everyone except Archie is family.  To protect Archie from Hiram’s wrath, Veronica steps in and says she told Jughead.  He was constantly on her back so she figured that she would give him a little information to quell his curiosity.  I think that Hiram saw through it though.  But Veronica did give Archie a verbal beating over it.

After Fred decides to drop out of the race for mayor, in an unexpected move, Hermione enters as a candidate. So how more corrupt can the town get?  If the Lodges now own the paper, the diner, Southside, and pretty much anyone in town, who can stop them?

Review of Riverdale 02×15:

This episode had a lot jam packed into an hour.  Overall, I think that the episode flowed for all of the drama that it contained.  I have to give props to Alice for dealing with Hal at the will reading.  Showing up and putting him in his place was one of the highlights. The creeper award still goes to Chic.  Something still isn’t right with that kid. I guess we will see in the next episode if what he is hiding comes out.
