Riverdale – Roundtable Recap

We are 5 episodes in to Riverdale’s second season, and it’s shaping up to be even darker than the last. After the bombshell ending to the last episode, we sat down with a couple of Riverdale fans and got their take on the events so far. So check out Ciara, Miranda and TJ’s thoughts on the show so far this season in our Riverdale Roundtable Recap.

Were you surprised to find out it was Fred (Luke Perry) who got shot in Pop’s?

C – I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to be Archie, but given how this show likes to throw curveballs I wasn’t 100%. Finding out it was Fred was kind of a shock and a relief at the same time.

M – I was certainly not expecting it!! There always seems to be plot twists and turns and this was one I didn’t see coming

TJ – I was surprised that happened to Fred because he is voice of Riverdale someone who does good for that community.

Jughead (Cole Sprouse) has embraced his inner Serpent – do you think it’s going to save him and his Northside friends, or just cause more conflict?

C – I think it’s going to cause some major issues going forward. The Black Hood seems to be set on splitting up our core four from each other, and Juggie is feeding right into that plan

M – As of right now, I can only see problems arising.  Jughead may be doing what he thinks is best but I don’t think the Northside gang will understand until it’s all said and done. By that point it may be too little too late.

TJ – I think its going to cause more bad than good. He became the leader to be the referee in between the North and South but that inner Darkness he has will win him over to Southside.

Archie (K.J. Apa) has been badly shaken up by his encounter with the Black Hood. From taking Jingle Jangle to stay up to protect his dad, to forming a vigilante group to protect the Northside. How do you think that’s affecting his relationships?

C – Archie feels like it’s all about him, even though it seems to be mostly about Betty. You can forgive him though given his dad and Miss Grundy were the Hood’s first targets. I think he’s in a pretty bad spiral right now, although it’s not all his fault. I hope that he can pull up out of it soon and save some of his relationships.

M – Ahh Archie.  Poor guy thinks it’s a conspiracy against him. Just like Jughead may take things too far with the Serpents, Archie may have bit off more than he can chew as well. I think if he keeps going down the path he is, his only friend may be the gun he’s been carrying.

TJ – I think badly. He is trying to be that hero that everyone wants him to be but in doing is causing more damage to all his relationships around him from Fred to Veronica and Jughead.

The last episode touched on a pretty sensitive topic, especially with what has happened in the media lately, that of sexual assault. Do you think the show handled it well?

C – I think they handled the immediate situation well, although Betty naming Nick to be the Hood’s next victim is kinda worrisome. Did love seeing Veronica, Josie and the Pussycats show up and save the day.

M – As a female, I loved the fact that The Pussycats showed up and knocked the crap out of Nick. Far too many times in today’s society females are shown as meek and insecure. These girls kicked ass when they needed to!

TJ – I think the show handled the subject in good manner with what happened in media. The way the Pussycats and Veronica went to save their friend is a good way to show that yeah you can stand up for yourself against those types of creeps in the world now.

So much has happened so far this season, it feels like more than 5 episodes. What’s been the biggest shock moment for you so far?

C – It’s a toss up between Miss Grundy getting killed by the Black Hood and Alice Cooper rocking up to the Lodge’s fancy gala OWNING her Serpent side. I think Alice edges it!

M – I have to pick just one? I think the biggest shock was Alice sashaying in to the gala wearing her Serpent pride!

TJ – Everything has been shocking so far but the biggest would be Archie buying a gun unlike his comic book counterpart. He doesn’t do that so seeing this version do that was different and shocking.

Betty (Lili Reinhardt) has been contacted by the Black Hood who says he is doing her bidding, ridding the world of the sinful. Who do you think the Black Hood is? Someone we know or someone we haven’t met yet?

C – The one person we’ve yet to meet, and who I think could be the Hood is Betty’s brother but the fact he’s threatened Polly makes me question that. I really can’t put my finger on another suspect though.

M – I have 2 theories. My first thought was Betty’s father. After last episode I was pretty sure that was who it was. But then on the last phone call he stated he would go after her father too. So was that to throw us off. The other theory was Betty’s long lost brother. Yes they may not know about him but if he knows about her he would know they look alike. He may also feel like he has been “wronged”.

TJ – I think it’s her brother. He is rumoured to show up so maybe its him trying to protect his sister from sinners of Riverdale. I could be wrong but that’s just a theory.

Veronica (Camilla Mendes) has had to deal with the arrival of her father, Hiram, after he was released from prison. What are your thoughts on their relationship and his manipulation of his family?

C – I think he’s pretty much a total scumbag. He loves his family but he really doesn’t have a healthy way of showing it AT ALL! Hopefully Veronica will open her eyes, especially after what happened with her turning a blind eye to Nick, and wake up to his shenanigans!

M – Oh he is a total manipulator and she doesn’t see it, or if she does she’s putting a blind eye to it so her family can be together again. Her daddy issues are showing.

TJ – He is the same as his Archie 2015 comic book counterpart in a way. He is trying to protect his daughter from Archie and keeps on manipulating her so he can have her on his side if something happens. The relationship between them is that of a loving parent but also of a guy who would do anything for his daughter in the most evil way possible.
