What We Do in the Shadows 206: On the Run features a mysterious stranger that has come to collect a debt from Laszlo. Laszlo immediately flees and starts a new life disguised as a human. We learn Laszlo’s last name, and that a toothpick is a great disguise.

Sink Holes

The vampires are finding the sinkholes in the yard. They are from centuries of burying victims in the yard. The vampires find it a fun game, Guillermo(Harvey Guillén) not so much.

A Dagger and an Old Forgotten Enemy

A dagger comes from nowhere and soon the vampire that threw it. Guillermo readies himself behind a tree, thinking it is an assassin from the vampire council.

The vampire isn’t from any council; he is here to collect from Laszlo(Matt Berry). Laszlo doesn’t remember him, so the stranger(Mark Hamill) refreshes his memory.

Rent Due

Over a century ago, Laszlo went out west to meet the devil at a crossroads to get better at guitar(We assume just like Robert Johnson ). Nadja(Natasia Demetriou) points out that the crossroads he needed was in Mississippi. Yes, Laszlo says. But he didn’t know that then.

Laszlo skipped out on the last month’s rent and deposit on the place the stranger had rented him.

The Duel

Laszlo refuses to pay, and agrees to a duel. The vampires turn back to back, and count to ten on Nandor’s(Kayvan Novak) count. Laszlo turns into a bat and flies away. The stranger falls into a sinkhole, screaming Laszlo’s last name-Cravensworth-and shaking his fist to the night sky.

A New Life

Laszlo has a costume he has used when trouble strikes stashed in a seedy hotel. It is comprised of a toothpick and a pair of blue jeans. He isn’t a coward; he just doesn’t like paying. Composing a letter of goodbye to his wife, he begins life as human Jackie Daytona in Pennsylvania(because it sounds like Transylvania).

Laszlo kills the owner of a small bar named Lucky’s. He takes over and soon the town loves him. They get lots of free drinks, and somehow their small girl’s volleyball team becomes championship material. Coach Swanson(Ashley Botting) calls him the “x” factor

He also has a rare automaton called Billy the Singing Bass hanging on his wall. Life is sweet.

Life Without Laszlo

The vampires are playing cards, and Nadja begins crying. She leaves the room and Colin(Mark Proksch) goes to speak to her. He awkwardly tries to kiss her to make her uncomfortable to feed.

The Talent Show

The girls do indeed make it to the championships, but there isn’t enough money to send them.

Plucky waitress Lucy(Madeleine Martin) sings as she walks by Laszlo Jackie, and gives him an idea.  A talent show at the bar to raise the funds for the girls.

A stranger stops by the bar one evening-it’s the vampire stranger! Laszlo thinks his ruse is busted, but no. His disguise is too good. The vampire is in town and heard about the volleyball team while looking for Laszlo.

The Fight

The talent show is a wild success, mostly in part thanks to Laszlo’s vampiric powers of persuasion. The money is raised, and everyone is celebrating. Jim shows up again and when a drape falls from a mirror, and Jackie removes his toothpick, Jim realizes it is Laszlo. A fight ensues, and all of the money raised catches on fire. Also, the town learns that vampires are real.

Making Up

After the fight, Jim and Laszlo are sorry about the loss of the money. To pay Jim back, Laszlo gives him the Singing Billy Bass as payment. He also burns down the bar to get money for the girls. Laszlo then has to burn down another building to get money for the funeral of the bar staff that was unknowingly still in the building when he burned the bar down. He goes home to a much relieved and amorous Nadja.

Jim and Laszlo hypnotize the entire city to forget about vampires, and Jim happily becomes the new girl’s volleyball coach.

On the downside, he finds out that Billy Basses aren’t rare, and his vengeance against Laszlo resumes.
