Recap: What We Do in the Shadows 202: Ghosts
What We Do in the Shadows 202: The vampires have a ghost infestation, and it only gets worse. Then better. Probably because of updog.
Ghosts, not Guillermo
Laszlo(Matt Berry) is relaxing in his study. When his back is turned, his books come off the shelves and stack themselves neatly on the floor. Naturally, he blames Guillermo(Harvey Guillén). The furniture then stacks itself, and Guillermo says that it is a ghost, which both Nandor(Kayvan Novak) and Laszlo scoff at. Ghosts!
Updog
Colin(Mark Proksch) is trying lame jokes to drain victims, and pushes “updog” on everyone in the house. No one is taking the bait, to his dismay.
Breakfast Burrito
Nadja(Natasia Demetriou) firmly believes in ghosts, much to Laszlo’s amusement. Laszlo uses cold, hard, 14th century science to disprove her.
Holding a séance, the most Nadja can get, communication wise, is a loud fart sound. The boys all make fun, saying she summoned a breakfast burrito. She tells them they have mocked and now they will pay before running outside.
She sits on their stoop, and Gregor/Jessk/Jeff’s(Jake McDorman) ghost appears.
So Babadooks and Werewolves Can Exist, But Not Ghosts?
There is a heated argument between Nandor and Guillermo about what can and cannot exist. Guillermo rightfully finds it ridiculous that Nandor, a vampire, doesn’t believe in ghosts.
The Ghost
Nadja reminds him that it has only been a few months since his decapitation, not the eternity he claims. She starts to ask him what he wants, when Laszlo comes outside to apologize. He does not see Jessk.
OK, he actually does see Jessk, but didn’t want to admit it. He runs to Nandor for aid. For some reason, they think attacking the ghost with knives and swords will work.
Nandor falls through Jessk when he tries to stab him, getting covered with “ectoplasm” for his trouble.
Jessk explains that he is there to scare them. He removes his head. It obviously doesn’t work. Who hasn’t seen or caused decapitations in the group? He then morphs into a multi-eyed hellbeast, and Laszlo, Guillermo, and Nandor run away. Colin Robinson, not so much. He’s more bemused than scared. He runs to catch up with the guys anyway.
Vampire Ghosts with Unfinished Business
Nandor and Laszlo reason that since they are all techincally dead, shouldn’t they have ghosts?
And lo! They do. They all have unfinished business on earth, so their ghosts do remain.
Nadja’s ghost is angry that she never learned to play an instrument or actually done anything. But they eventually get along. They have so much in common! Ghost Nadja really is into ghost Jessk, though. She decides to hang around.
Nandor forgot how to speak his native tongue, so he can’t really communicate with his ghost.
Laszlo’s affable ghost needs help getting, uh, satisfied. He needs corporeal hands to finish the job.
John the Horse
Nandor finally susses out that Ghost Nandor wants to be reunited with John, his faithful horse. Nandor loved him more than anything, but was forced to eat him when his troops were stranded.
In a scene that is actually bittersweet, Nandors and Colin summon John, and reunite him with Nandor(s).
Together at last, John and Ghost Nandor disappear into the afterlife, leaving a wistful vampire Nandor. Colin unsuccessfully tries to updog Nandor.
The Dolly
Ghost Nadja takes up residence in a slightly creepy doll, but the Nadjas decide to keep it a secret.
Showing Laszlo the doll, she walks into a room filled with what Laszlo tells her is ectoplasm. Let’s just leave that as it is.
Summoning Grandma
Desperate for someone to take the updog bait, Colin summons his late grandmother. She falls for it, and then Colin sends her back to the afterlife instead of getting caught up. He’s busy.
