Recap: NOS4A2 208: Chris McQueen
NOS4A2 208: Chris McQueen: Chris tries to atone for his past neglect of Vic and her mother by going with her on the Shorter Way bridge to save Wayne, while Bing atones for his past by giving Vic information. Millie shares a secret with Vic.
The Eulogy
Vic(Ashleigh Cummings) is a young child(played by Bella May Mordus), seated with Linda(Virginia Kull) in a church pew. Chris(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) is delivering a rambling anti- eulogy over his father’s casket. It is heartfelt, brutally honest(Emmy and Golden Globe worthy), and leaves Chris angry and emotional. His father’s life seems to mirror his life eight years earlier, when Vic first encountered Charlie Manx.
At the Junkyard
Linda:
I…I don’t know about this.
Taking explosives over a magical bridge in the rain.
You are my only child, Vicki, my baby!
Lou(Jonathan Langdon), Vic, and Chris repair Vic’s bike, with Lou adding the finishing touches, and Vic heads out to stop Charlie Manx(Zachary Quinto) at the junkyard. Chris insists on coming with her.
Her parents are still unsure about Vic’s powers, until Chris rides with her, and the bridge appears.
At the junkyard, they find the wounded Bing(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), and Chris beats him unconscious until Vic intervenes. Wayne(Jason David), the Wraith, and Charlie have escaped, however.
The Interrogation
Bing, to Vic:
Do you remember when we were friends?
Tabitha(Ashley Romans) has an on-the-mend Bing for questioning. She gets vital information-enough for the FBI to put her back in their good graces.
Bing still insists on talking to Vic, and he tells her that Wayne has to hang his ornament on a tree outside Christmasland. It is the last stop, and he has to get out of the Wraith to do it.
Breaking Up
I’d shank a thousand assholes for your mopey ass.
Outside, in Tabitha’s SUV, Vic asks Maggie(Jahkara J. Smith) to use her tiles to see if Wayne has hanged his ornament. Tabitha catches them, but at least the news was good. But it is the only good news.
Tabitha tells Maggie that she still loves her, but must keep her feet firmly planted in the non-paranormal world. She tells her she will drive her to the airport so she can go to Colorado.
Forgiveness
Vic packs explosives for her latest fight with Charlie. Chris insists on going with her, as he is an explosives expert. Angry that he wasted precious time by beating Bing, Vic yells angrily at him. Her mother calms her down, and she takes him with her.
Planting the explosives, Vic explains that forgiving Chris for his past would mean having to forgive herself, and she doesn’t think she deserves forgiveness. Maggie and Lou arrive, and the conversation ends.
The Ornament Trees by the Sleigh House Have a Secret
Seeing an evergreen tree forest filled with ornaments, Vic, Chris, Lou, and Maggie realize that
Each one of these represents a kid gone forever.
Vic hears something that Maggie thinks is just the wind. But Vic is right, it is more than that. It is Millie(Mattea Conforti). As Vic tracks the voice down, Maggie asks the tiles if there is a way to save the children. The tiles give her, and a concerned Lou, a cryptic answer that isn’t a “no”.
The Promise
Vic can hear Millie, but can’t see her. She shows Vic a secret, that there is a very thin veil that separates Christmasland from the Sleigh House. It is something that Charlie doesn’t know about. After meeting her human self, Millie realizes that she wants to grow up and experience life. She makes Vic promise to get her free of Christmasland. If she doesn’t, when Vic kills Charlie, all the children there will die, too.
Later, as they wait in the dark for Charlie and Wayne, Chris tells Vic to let herself off the hook; if not, she’ll just hang there forever. They hear the Wraith approaching
The Wraith and Wayne’s Ornament
Wayne has his ornament, and Charlie tells him to pick a special branch. An obviously transformed Wayne smiles, all fang-toothed, and heads into the evergreen forest.
The Wraith begins honking and flashing its lights, warning Charlie of danger. Charlie knows it’s Vic, and urges Wayne to come back. Wayne ignores him, and goes deeper into the woods.
A hidden Maggie sees Wayne, and calls to him. Hissing and showing his teeth, Wayne runs from a shocked Maggie as his mother gets on the Triumph to face Charlie.
Showdown Redux
In the explosives lined road, Vic readies herself.
But remember how Lou fixed the bike? Yeah… not so much. The bike stalls, and Chris shoves Vic out of the way of the Wraith. Unable to get away in time himself, Chris’s legs are crushed under the Wraith’s wheels.
In the forest, Lou holds Wayne, and tells him everything will be alright. Wayne recognizes him, and holds him tight, until he hears the explosives go off. He bites a confused Lou, and runs to the Wraith, just in time to see Charlie as he twists and snaps an incapacitated Chris’s neck as Vic, trapped under her bike, is helpless to stop him. Crying for her father, Vic watches him die.
