NOS4A2 206: The Hourglass: Maggie fights a powerful and cunning strong creative to the finish to protect those she loves. Chris tells Linda that Vic really does have powers.

The Good Doctor

Jonathan “The Hourglass” Beckett(Paul Schneider) approaches a doctor(Norm Lewis) heading towards the hospital where Vic(Ashleigh Cummings), her father Chris(Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Lou(Jonathan Langdon) are recovering.

Maggie(Jahkara J. Smith) is in Vic’s room, staying with her as she sleeps. The doctor comes in, and, eyes blank, injects something he took from another patient’s bedside into Vic’s blood bag. Thinking quickly, Maggie pulls out Vic’s IV, and chases after the doctor. In a restricted room, Maggie watches helplessly as the doctor injects himself with the same syringe and dies.

Linda

Enraged, Vic’s mother Linda(Virginia Kull) tears into the FBI agents outside Vic’s room. Going into Vic’s room, she tells Vic that she has a busted spleen, and if it re-ruptures, Vic will die. Vic still tries to get up and tells her mother that she can use her powers to find Wayne(Jason David). Linda tells her that if she keeps talking crazy, she’ll have her get a psych eval, and Vic stops, remembering her last visit to the psych ward.

Maggie

Tabitha(Ashley Romans) is still recovering from her beating, and is told her supervisor wants her off the case. Maggie comes home and tells Tabitha that what happened at the Lake House with the two rogue agents and then earlier that day with the doctor isn’t a power Charlie Manx(Zachary Quinto) possesses. She assumes rightly that there is another Strong Creative at play, and tells Tabitha that she will use her tiles-it is the only way. Tabitha warns her not to, but Maggie just kisses her forehead and goes off and does it anyway.

Back at the Hospital

Chris has been discharged and is getting dressed; Linda comes to see him. He admits that they were wrong about Vic, and that she does have a supernatural gift. Linda asks how a mother could miss something like that, and Chris tells her that it is because she spent all her time with her head down, hiding cuts and bruises that Chris gave her, keeping the house afloat by working, and making excuses for his drinking and philandering.

Vic tells a bedridden Lou that he had a cardiac event at the Lake House from the beating he got, and had to have a stent put in. She tells him that she can’t find Wayne until her Triumph is fixed, and he vows to help her.

A Wraith in the Wraith

NOS4A2 206 Hourglass

As Charlie is driving Wayne to Christmasland, he reveals that he knows Wayne has a “cellular telephone”, and goads him to use it to call his mother, Charlie knows full well that Vic is injured and will not be able to answer. When he is proven right, he tells Wayne that his mother will not come for him.

Suddenly, a grotesque form appears next to Wayne in the backseat, unseen by Charlie. It is Craig(Dalton Harrod), and he tells him to keep the fact that he is there from Charlie. He also tells Wayne that Charlie is lying; Vic will always come for him.

Maggie Meets The Hourglass

You were wrong. Before. Fate controls most of the outcomes in the world, but not all of them. I control the rest.

Maggie goes to the hotel bar where the Jonathan Beckett is drinking. She tells him about her gift in exchange for him showing her his gift. He uses the hourglass to get the bartender to give them the best bourbon in the bar on the house. I don’t know what brand it was, but it weren’t Pappy Van Winkle, which makes me question how upscale this place is…

Jonathan reveals that every time he uses his powers, he loses some of his memory, but has found a way to mitigate it. Extreme pain or hurting someone else can offset the seizures that Maggie has. Taking her to his room, he burns her arm and asks the tiles what he wants to know: will he achieve immortality. Telling her not to scream at the pain, to let it fill her, she does not seize. But the answer is not what he wanted to hear. No, unlike Charlie Manx, he will not be immortal. He angrily punches the glass topped coffee table in his room, breaking it into shards.

The Fight

When Jonathan leaves the room, Maggie searches for his hourglass. After sussing out what she was doing, he knocks her across the room. Fighting like a pro, she gets a few licks in before he gets her pinned. Using a shard from the coffee table, she stabs him and crushes his hourglass with her shoe, killing him.

Wayne is Changing

Charlie parks the Wraith at a junkyard, and insists they rest before the final leg of their journey to Christmasland. As Charlie gets outside of the Wraith, Wayne spits out a bloody tooth. The Wraith’s back window rolls open to let a butterfly in. Normally gentle Wayne picks it up and names it, just before ripping it to shreds. That evening, after resting, Charlie tells him that they are leaving for Christmasland, but asks

Do you need to use the water closet? It’s always a good policy before a long road trip.

Surprise!

Getting out of the car, Charlie is attacked by Bing(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) with gingerbread gas. He disables the Wraith and drags Charlie away. Craig reappears and tells Wayne to call his mother.

At Linda’s and fixing her bike, Vic answers. Wayne tells her he is sick and scared, and tells them he is in a junkyard. Vic tells him she is coming for him, and the line goes dead.
