Bing’s Origins

We see Bing Partridge(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) as a child, opening presents on Christmas morning. His cruel father, John(Larry Mitchell), makes his morning a nightmare after Christmas, and his mother, June(Miriam Silverman), coddles him.

As he gets older, we see he is a sociopath, shooting a nail into his father’s head and raping his mother(thankfully waaay offscreen) before killing her with the same nailgun.

His skewed mind is perfect for Charlie Manx(Zachary Quinto). I take back worrying about him during my livetweets.

Vic Tries to Find Haley

Maggie(Jahkara J Smith) has rushed to Vic’s(Ashleigh Cummings) side; she knows about Haley’s(Darby Camp) disappearance, and wants to go with Vic to find her. Vic tells her that only she can access the bridge, and rides off.

Coming to the end of the bridge, she is surprised to see Bing. The bridge brought her there, and she thinks it made a mistake. His is the “House of Sleep” she sees written on the bridge’s interior, but he does not run a bed and breakfast, FYI. My advice is to never sleep there.

Bing’s Basement

But Vic’s power doesn’t make mistakes. Bing has a dish of cookies and eggnog(or milk, I can’t tell). Not for himself, oh, no. He takes them to his basement. Haley’s mother, Sharon(Elizabeth Stanley) is bound to a chair. She is awake and angry. She wants her daughter. Bing doesn’t like her language, and puts her to sleep again.

Haley Gets Tough

Having been gassed by Bing, Haley awakens from a deep sleep. She isn’t having Charlie’s crap, and puts up a tough front. She begins spitting out her teeth, and asks Charlie what he is doing to her. Charlie makes it snow in the car, but Haley wants her mom. A promise of teaching her magic and the wonders of Christmasland, however, gets Haley to reveal Vic’s secret.

The Amber Alert

Maggie convinces a fishing Sheriff Bly(Chris McKinney) to put out an Amber Alert on the Wraith. This works, sort of. A woman passing by a convenience store where Charlie is buying a ridiculous amount of car fresheners(he likes pine) sees the Wraith at the same second the Amber Alert sounds on her phone. She reaches her hand into the car to help Haley, but Haley has been transformed like Danny(Asher Miles Fallica). Her teeth all sharp fangs now, she pulls the woman into the car, and blood spurts on the Wraith’s windows as Haley rips her to shreds. Charlie is ok with this when he comes out. Must have one hell of a detailer in Christmasland.

Back to Bing’s

Vic tells Maggie that there is no way that Bing is the bad guy. He is the janitor at the school! Maggie asks her just how well she knows him, really. Realizing that loaning comics to a man does not make him a good man, she races back to Bing’s. Under the guise of getting her comics back, she runs to the basement. No one is there. Vic pulls a knife and asks where Haley and her mother are. Bing’s answer is not a good one.

Charlie calls at that moment, and asks to speak to Vic. He wants to meet her. Vic races off to try to find Sharon. She comes out of the bridge to a field, and finds Sharon’s body buried in a shallow grave. She goes to her mother(Virginia Kull), and the police come. A visibly shaken Vic goes home with her mother, leaving her bike behind.

Christmasland

We now see Christmasland, as Charlie pulls up to its gates with Haley. Charlie cannot stay, as he must go meet Vic, he tells Haley. The gates open, and Danny stands at the entrance with a gift. A large pair of scissors for a game, Scissors for the Drifter.

Thoughts on The House of Sleep
  • Bing is one creepy mofo. His backstory belies his genial nature in the first two episodes. Guess that goes to show you never know, huh?
  • Faith No More fans: Mike Patton wrote the opening theme!
  • Linda blaming Vic’s ONE RED EYE on drugs made me so mad!
  • Charlie really likes the fresh scent of pine. Really.
  • The glass cat was a low blow after last week, Charlie. Jerk.
  • Maggie in the Haverhill library, though. Do not shush her.
  • Christmasland’s deer look like Wendigo. Sort of.
  • Vic finding Sharon’s body was so well acted by Ashleigh. Amazing work.
