- Nate and Zari go on a date slash mission that actually is a mission, not a setup, but no one told the pair
- Nora is still comatose, and Constantine hunts for a cure
- Charlie and Mick find a way to make a quick and easy $20,000, until Mona shows up
- Ray fights Neron’s possession, but faces a no win ultimatum: save his best friend or his own soul
The Ruse That Laid the Golden Egg
Nate(Nick Zano) and Zari(Tala Ashe) are obviously attracted, but Zari’s need to keep her emotions in check and the fact that Nate is kinda clueless have kept them apart.
Ava(Jes Macallan) and Sara(Caity Lotz) aren’t having it anymore, and send the two on what they think is a fluff mission in hopes that the romance finally takes off. It involves an egg that has zero chocolate.
Quick Cash for Writing Romance
Charlie(Maisie Richardson-Sellers) finds an offer for “Rebecca Silvers” to attend a Romant-i-Con, and works with Mick(Dominic Purcell) to bring his nom de plume to life to make an “easy” twenty grand. Charlie will be Rebecca, with Mick coaching her on what to say.
Mona(Ramona Young), a sucker for these types of conventions, shows up and believes she is exposing the pair as imposters. Instead, Mick proves it really is him behind the name, and is surprised to be accepted by the attendees. Still, pretty douche move, Mona.
Idle Hands
Ray(Brandon Routh) has a problem: his hands seem to have a mind of their own, eg being stabby and smothery. They have also started emitting what looks like a demonic fog that wraps around them like vines. This isn’t very scientific, but Ray looks for a scientific solution, with zero results. Finding out that he is possessed, Gary(Adam Tsekhman) offers to exorcise Ray because he thinks that dressing like John Constantine(Matt Ryan) and taking care of his plants while he is AWOL makes Gary able to do things like this. Gary, you noob. Do you want a Newcastle situation, BECAUSE THAT IS HOW YOU GET NEWCASTLE SITUATIONS.
Raiders of the Lost Egg
Convinced the mission is really a setup to get them together, Nate and Zari treat it like a joke, especially after finding that the golden egg is papier mache. The entire mission seems to feed into Nate’s love of Raiders of the Lost Ark, down to Zari’s dress. But the mission becomes very real, with very real bullets, Sara and Ava showing up just in time to convince them it wasn’t just a blind date. The real egg is retrieved, and the two finally admit their feelings for one another, kissing.
An X-Ray of the real egg shows it is a dragon. Paging any Targaryens or Weasleys on the ship!
John Needs Another Feather*
John has been missing, searching for a phoenix feather as part of a spell to cure Nora(Courtney Ford) of her magical coma. He has found it, and she wakes up just in time to tell him that Neron isn’t gone-he has Ray! Ray needs to fight Neron; the only way he can take Ray completely is if Ray gives himself to the demon. That ain’t gonna happen, right? Right?
Ray Makes a Choice
Matters are worse when Nate shows up, and possessed Ray is beating him to death(Nate either can’t or won’t transform to his metallic form, after turning briefly). Ray’s hand reaches for a knife, and before Neron can make him murder Nate, Ray gives himself to Neron under the condition that Nate lives. Ava understands the gravity of the situation, and asks Nora to help-not as a prisoner, but as a member of the crew. Gary hasn’t helped the situation, and says he is tired of being overlooked after being berated again. Neron appears in a mirror, offering Gary his lost nipple(lost way back at the beginning of the season by an evil unicorn) and power if he joins him. Gary accepts and the two disappear, leaving a beaten, battered, and too late to stop it John and Nora.
Thoughts on “Egg MacGuffin”
Poor John Constantine gets beaten up so much! It is part of his lifestyle choices, but I just wanna give the guy a hug and a band-aid(sticking plaster)! And his face when Nora woke up! He was so happy!
So when the egg hatches, will we get to see the baby dragon? I really want to see the egg hatch with a baby dragon.
Loved the scene with Nate and Ray. Ray’s devotion to his friend at the cost of his soul is sure to make Nate hungry for revenge. And I wanna be there to see it.
Courtney Ford makes everything better. I adore her, and when Ava offered Nora a job, she conveyed all the emotions that crossed Nora’s face like an EMMY WINNER. Seriously, she-like Matt Ryan-needs all the awards.
Mona can be adorable at times, but her brashness and overly fangirling, meta attitude(with accompanying fanspeak) doesn’t always fit with the show, and can take me out of the story in a jarring way.
I had a few laugh out loud moments with Nate and Zari when they thought they had figured out the mission was not a real mission, but a Raiders of the Lost Ark inspired escape room. And I loved the homage to what is also one of my favorite movies. Zari’s dress is pretty accurate, although it is technically a nightgown/slip in the movie.
This ep was a great balance of fun, adventure, and horror and heartbreak. Laughs one minute, cussing at the TV the next!
Getting real tired of your shit, Gary. Yes, you do get overlooked sometimes, but your chosen gullibility is why. It makes you unreliable and a liability in the field. This is probably why Ava has unresolved issues with you. You’ve had opportunities to toughen and wise up, but your stubborn need to be a naive Pollyanna only works in a Disney movie. Your running right into Neron’s arms does not help your case. Turning evil at the first opportunity, Gary? How do you think that’ll work out at your job review?
Legends of Tomorrow airs at 8:00 Mondays on The CW. Be sure to livetweet new episodes with us @FandemoniumNET
*John also used a feather in his first appearance since Constantine was cancelled on NBC. Guest starring on Arrow, he requested the feather of a dead peacock from Felicity. Not to use in a spell, but to scratch his back. Clearly a jab at NBC and their corporate logo-a peacock.
